The irony is waitrose is in some pretty funny places. We have one, in a decided down market town because its near lots of very upmarket villages. Similarly its in so e odd London spots. Trying to think of one near a recording studio we used ....cannot think where and DH isn't about for me to ask. Any way...dodgy spot, funny old waitrose. Looked like some sort of confusion had happened

Not actually certain which is my closest supermarket, the one I use most often is the simplest drive and best parking, not necessarily closest. I also use Bertie's waitrose sometimes.

"But like the chicken and the egg, is it a case of Waitrose following affluent customers, or does the opening of a branch make an area more desirable? In the absence of evidence, anecdote can often be king"

I used to drive for Waitrose, and my favourite destination was King's Road, Chelsea. The yard was always full of chelsea tractors - the shoppers used to leave their purchases at the back door, and then phone a servant to come and collect.

But there was no room to turn the truck! It was great fun watching the arguments between the tractor owners and the Waitrose employees who were asking them to leave. It was even more fun when the tractor-drivers continued to force their way into the yard, and we got the chance to accelerate towards them until we could see the terror in their eyes.

Are you sure it's not Weightrose? ;)

No it's definitely Waitrose, part of the John Lewis's chain no less.

Nearest to me is a little community supermarket (Co-Op). Nearest mainstream supermarket is Tesco, but prefer Sainsbury or M&S which are near where I work.

Within a mile we have Aldi, Lidl, Waitrose, Co-op, M&S and Tesco. We also have a Sainsbury's a bit further down the road. I do 90% of my shopping at Aldi these days, and I buy all our meat from the butcher in the next village.

Closest to Waitrose here but I wouldn't shop at that shambles, it's very poor and low quality.

Tesco (top of the road), then Lidl, soon to be joined by Morrison. Also got Sainsburys and Asda within walking distance.

A little Co-op at the end of the road, then the other way there's a Lidl, a Tesco garage and another Co-op.

Actually can't think of a better mix. Co-op for the convenience, Tesco for late nights and early mornings, and Lidl for quality.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

I just re-read the original post, and clocked the reference to the 'primary' residence. The phrase 'primary residence' is definitely a Waitrose-style concept, and changes the whole discussion.
