I am very pleased to say that my computer is now nicely cleaned up! Computer was started in safe mode and then a very good friend who knows more than me ran Malware Bytes.

Mbam should always be run in normal mode wherever possible, using it's chameleon feature when mbam wont run due to infection.

Just followed the procedure in the link given in NiftyDigits post which seems specific to the removal of the 'nasty' on my machine. But thanks for taking the time to respond.

No problem.

The next step would be to ensure you take precautions to help stop future infection. Ensure all software is up to date, particularly browser plugins - Java, Adobe Flash & Reader etc...

I always allow the regular updates for these but will check to make sure they are up to date. Thanks.

My husband downloaded some gaming add-ons, and unwittingly downloaded this thing. It has driven me to distraction but the link above was easy to follow, even for me, and has done it all for me I am so grateful!
