I was lucky because sel was still marked up as £1 on both so I got a refund and gift card.

This if different to returning the 'product' (ie the pre-order) but retaining the points - as marbbett is saying one should not do.

But to buy handfulls of pre-orders just for the points, never really intending to actually buy the game, and then getting a refund of the £5 pre-order is pushing it a bit.

I bought 1 game and got a refund on 2 pre-order slips. The game is alot dearer than tosco usually sell them for so wasn't paying full price for 3.
As you say the points are for pre-ordering, NOT buying the game.

I have ordered 2 copies from direct so they will be getting the money off me, albeit minus a deduction for using a code they sent me.
