Do i switch now?????
Hi,
I'm with Sainsbury's January 2014 energy check.
I've been told by them already that, although they're not going to raise my prices now, when it runs out in January, they'll be putting me on the standard variable tariff.
At the moment I pay:
(I notice that they mostly all charge a standing charge and not do a two tier pricing system now, but what they mostly do is charge the standing charge on one fuel but not the other and alther prices accordingly)
I think that by the time the switch happened I wouldn't be bound by the early canx terms.
I am thinking of switching to the nPower 2017 deal.
Should I be basing my comparisons based on my current prices or their variable prices?
Do you think it would be worth it? Do you think it would work out better in the long run or would I just start paying 2017 prices now? lol
Thanks for any help.

Put your annual kWh usage for each fuel into the comparison sites and see what comes up. You can compare it to the tariff you are currently on, but bear in mind that price increases are almost inevitable in comparison to that, so it's a case of which will give you the smallest increase.
Not much benefit in comparing it to Sainsbury's current standard tariff, as that may well go up before January, if it hasn't already.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. You have missed the best pre-price rise fixes any way.
Wait for the Autumn Statement. David Cameron might remove the green levy from fuel bills, which could mean a 15% drop.0 -
Possible yes, but highly unlikely.
Do the comparison as suggested, but if your current supplier does not have an exit charge I would be tempted to sign up for a new fixed rate ASAP
It does have an exit fee of £20 per fuel but this would be more than covered by the £50 cashback on the nPower quidco offer.
I'm just not sure on the extra costs because they got shot of the two rate charges but they now all have different standing charges so it makes it hard.
I looked at mine compared to others and it said the nPower deal to Dec 2017 would add £131 to my bill annually.0 -
Do you actually think that last part you said is possible???
You think the prices are going up AGAIN before January 2014?
Two weeks ago, I would have said FIX, before the price rises.
The fixes now and those in three months time will not change much, uness something major like the green levy happens.
If nothing happens, you will get a fix for about the same price as now, but will have enjoyed the rest of your current fix.
If prices do drop by 15%, you will get a better fix in January 2014.0 -

Thanks.
It ends JAN 24th. When do you think I should start the move?0 -
Just switched to NPower on 4 Winter fix. Their contract states the following charges per unit :-
Gas
3.843p and 43.365 daily standing charge.
Electric
15.71p and 11.49p daily standing charge.
Initial price difference for NPower switch from BG was 15% but since price increase is now 5%.
Hope this helps.0 -

That's what I wonder. Although the difference now if huge, would it be that big if I compare it to what the price WILL be...0
