Passport issue

I've booked flights using Bravofly to Malaysia (Qatar Airways) , but have since realised my wife's passport expires within 3 months of travel.

Thing is we only just got married this year, so I booked the flights in her maiden name (as per her current passport).

What will happen when we renew the passport, will there be a fee to pay to change the name and will the passport number stay the same? Do I change the name straight away before we sort out the passport?

    The name for the flight ticket must match the name on the passport so I guess the only way around this would be for her to get a new passport in her maiden name, unless you can get Qatar to name change the flight...I would suggest getting the answer to this before applying for the passport
  • Ok, but if we dont make the changes on the ticket...

    Can you apply for a new passport in your maiden name?
    Does your passport number stay the same?

    your wife can use her maiden name legally its not a problem, its only a problem when passport and name on tickets dont match.

  • Ok fantastic that is very helpful.

    After phoning Bravofly they said the current passport is ok to travel on anyway. We fly out and return in April 2014, and the passport expires in June.

    I'm still a bit nervous about this, I thought it was often the case you cant fly within 6 months of travel?

    Hi

    There are now very few countries that say you need 6 months on your passport past your return travel date. Most now say that as long as it is valid for your return date you are covered and the airlines can {and are} fined if they allow people to fly with incorrect paperwork {passports,tickets ect} so if the airline has told you it is OK do not worry. Have a great time :0)
    {passports,tickets ect}
  • It wasnt the airline directly that said that , it was the agency I booked the tickets with.

    I have now found out conflicting information, and it seems you do need 6 month validity on your passport when travelling to Malaysia according to this forum.

    Where can I find out for certain?

    Hi

    Just done a quick check and found this from the Gov UK website {link below}

    https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/malaysia/entry-requirements

    Sorry but with your reply saying that the airline {as I thought} said it was OK it was covered :0(

    As you now know, you have been given incorrect information.

    If I were planning travel, I'd check with the Directgov website (link provided by London50) then double check with the embassy website of the country being visited.
    Never rely on the word of other people/agencies. It's unlikely that they will have all entry requirements for all countries at their fingertips.

    Hope you manage to get your tickets/passport sorted.

    agree with this 100% - there is so much conflicting 'advice' out there that it's much better to go to government sources, but acknowledging that the UK government site may not always be 100% up-to-date so back-up checking the embassy website just to be certain.
    Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
