You have 2 options....
1. inside the car, look at the cable from the handle - is it pulling on the cable? If it is then theres not much you can do from inside the car, it it isn't then if you can see the cable end then pull on the cable with pliers.
2. Jack up the front of the car get it high up on axle stands, high enough to go under the front of the car, reach up between the radiator and engine with a screwdriver and lever the catch away to the side in the direction that the cable is going.0 -

some forums don't like it. mgrover forums don't like these questions, RSowners don't like these questions, alphaforums don't like these questions.
the less information there is on asking questions about a vehicle weaknesses the better.
who would want to rob corsa but their stolen all the time as Vectra is bigger faster and better, hope you own one! with that attitude it will be gone soon.0 -
I had a similar problem on my 08 Mondeo and it took the garage 2 hours to get it open by going in through the front passenger foot well. When they received a replacement cable there was a small plastic protection right where my cable had broken. Until they had loads of broken cables reported it never occurred to Ford designers that cable rubbing on metal is likely to snap! Don't start me on the over-engineered locking petrol cap!0

I expect the clamp Bracket that holds the outer cable on the slam panel is loose smile to get bonnet open get grille out the way then grab hold of cable between clamp and catch and pull the cable downwards bonnet will pop open0

It's a very common problem on Vauxhalls going back to Cavaliers too. Sometimes your lucky and the stretched cable can be "overpulled" from the handle end with a pair of molegrips, otherwise the easiest way of doing it is to make a hook out of a strong coat hanger and pull the bowden cable at the release end. Doubt if any tealeafs would benefit from this, if your in the cabin or popping the bonnet without the keys, your getting deafened now by the surprisingly loud vx alarm.
I've seen people readjusting the cable holder under the bonnet and all sorts of other fixes, but unless yours is actually broken, the old one is stretched and needs replacing.0 -
I realise this is an old post but if anyone else has this issue, this is how I opened my bonnet..

He doesn't have an MG, Ford or Alfa, he has a Vauxhall, that is why I advised him to ask on the Vauxhall forum.0
