Write off or repair?

Yesterday, in the dark & heavy rain & windows badly steamed up (windows have been badly steamed up this week, almost looking like polish), I reversed into a small post with my 8.5yr old 3dr focus.

I appreciate this is difficult without pics, but my OH thinks its maybe a write off. Damage to one panel, but a large panel, next to boot, under the lights. Had a look this morning & it looks like a 1-2cm high tear which is 10cm or slightly longer in length as well as the dent itself & paintwork damage. You can see through the tear. Car is maybe worth 2.2-2.5k.

Reckon write off? If so, worth writing off or getting repaired or leaving it? My premium already increased a little due to 2 non fault claims where my vehicle was written off jul 11 & feb 13.

Before discussing this at all with your insurer find out how much it costs to repair at a backstreet garage,

If you claim (assuming the post's owner wont be claiming against you) you will lose 2 years ncd and none awarded for this year (unless you protdct it), have to pay your excess, and your premium will rise and be affected for the next 3/5 years.

Do dummy quotes online with this fault claim on your record to see what difference it makes.

When you have these figures and the quote for repair you are in a better position to decide what to do.
  • Hmm yeah will find out a repsir price. My excess is about 250-300. I'm on my 2nd or 3rd year ncd which I don't want to lose (non protected)

Also read up in your policy what happens after a write off.

Most insurers will deduct any premium owing (if you pay by instalments) as well as your total excess (voluntary plus any compulsory) from the settlement and some insurers end the policy after a total loss claim, meaning a brand new policy to cover any replacement.

Uncalled for comment. (The previous 2 were non fault write offs!)

Is it worth fixing properly, get inside the boot and push it out / tidy up, mesh, fill, sand and paint, £20.

you might find that a wee bit hard unless you can fit your car through a 3 ft space:rotfl:
tho judging by your driving history i wouldn't put it past you:T

sorry if it offends you but driving while windows are obscured is an offence and irresponsible and dangerous. Luckily it was a post you backed into not a pedestrian.
