Seller excludes all of the people of Scotland mainland from his free UK postage posting . My gran in her 70's who lives in Glasgow, mainland central Scotland (which is a part the United Kingdom mainland), needed a new thermostat control for her central heating , and was advised to select this one it include free United Kingdom post by a 24hr courier.
The courier are called WEY (I had never heard of them). The seller has since refunded her payment as she refused to pay the surcharge as she didnt live in any of the postcodes in the sellers "table of postcodes" .

We sent to your paypal account the money request.
Please, pay that or if you prefer to delete the transaction let me know.

AFAIK it is perfectly legit to add extra postage costs if this is reflected in the actual costs. Since he is using a courier the costs are likely to be more, so he can make this charge.
I charge extra for America and that doesn't mean I am racially prejudiced against themI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. They wrote twice it's an extra const, not cost. That aside, maybe it costs them more to send to Scotland. I don't know why they're only adding extra costs for Scotland though as you'd think it would cost them more to post to NI and other places outside of England.
Still, odd as it is to just pick on Scotland, I don't think there's anything that says they must give free postage to the whole UK. If they want to charge more to Scotland they can and if a buyer doesn't want to pay that cost and disagrees with the description they shouldn't bid/buy.0 -
They've set their auction up incorrectly. You can add surcharges for parts of the UK on listings and it is then charged automatically to the buyer at checkout.
I imagine they just don't know how to do it.
It doesn't appear xenophobic to me, most couriers charge more to the extremities of the UK.0 -

I wasn't aware you can add the surcharge automatically for parts of the UK, thank you for clarifying that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The postage box just says FREE post to United Kingdom, and I presume Wales and Northern Ireland don't get charged extra, so it is a lie that that it is FREE delivery to the United Kingdom, it was a bit sneaky ,Glasgow is hardly in the same league as an extra charge to America and it is NOT ok to surcharge people like that. My gran DID read it and assumed it was the Highlands and remote Islands, and she has said to him ,just refund me then and they also have a premium rate number which ebay are monitoring.
As well as not being able to spell their "table" rate they made up includes non existent postal codes , and my grans postcode is not any of those quoted!NB...People online who are here asking advice for "my friend" they really mean "myself" :eek:0 -

Not quite sure what you mean by that.
If she feels aggrieved, then report the listing, for what good it will do.
But honestly, you can't get the seller to sell unless he wants to.0 -
City link have quite a complex system of surcharges which includes a lot of Scotland but not Southern Scotland. Mind you, I expect as soon as Scotland goes to a separate country, Royal Mail will be quick off the mark to charge international rates just like they do for Ireland and they only have to drive the mail across the border from NI.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. It looks likely that the seller is part of a group that has their own delivery network and they don't cover Scotland..0

I was only on to Skype to her so will get an update later but hopefully she will be refunded as she requested that, but that was 10pm last night when she got the GOOD MORNING email and she forwarded me it, she wondered if they stayed outside of the UK and emailed asking him to refund her and thought it was odd to get a business email so late at night , am sure she will get back her money hopefully and that will be the end of it shes used ebay for many years and she just said never been charged for staying in the central belt .NB...People online who are here asking advice for "my friend" they really mean "myself" :eek:0
