Petrol Loyalty Schemes
Options
I spend at least £140 on petrol a month, and there's few ways I can reduce this bill as it's my transport to work!
As the prices between petrol stations don't vary much where I live, I wonder if anyone can recommend the best petrol loyalty scheme around at the moment?
If i'm spending £140 anyway I figure it may as well be at the same place so to get myself something in return!
Any suggestions?

I use a nectar card at sainsburys or bp.
It is not a great deal but bp often have offers
where you get extra points.I don't think any of them are great but something for nothing is ok.The nectar points can be spent at various places.travelover0 -
Which do you think works out as the best return on your money?0

I use Total Tops card at the local tops garage.
But then I use Nectar when I'm at Sainsbury's
And Tesco at......
So tend to use one of the three.

I use sainsbugs for their points (save up vouchers for Christmas shop)
I use Tescos ditto
I use Morrisons to get vouchers (guess what they go towards)
Also have barclaycard linked to Nectar card for extra points, and use this to buy fuel hence doubling points (pay off balance each month)
I keep an eye out for supermarket 'spend so much and get Xp off fuel' promos (Tescos are doing on at the mo). Also keep a real eye on which garage locally is currently cheapest."It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that, I'm sorry. But you can take my word for it, your mother had it comin'."

OK, heres what you need...
A Shell station, near a supermarket, so they price match ideally, assuming you use unleaded or diesel.
THEN....get a Shell Visa card - you get 1500 points (worth £10 free fuel) just for applying & making 1 transaction.
Use this in the station, together with an Optimax card, free from the chashier usually - or mail off for it.
You'll then gain around 1p/litre back as points to 'cash in' in Shell/Boots/other places. Plus, of course, your vehicle will not have to put up with the debateable lower additve containing supermarket fuels.
& if you want to treat your engine to the BEST fuel, use Shell Optimax, although this is several pennies/litre dearer, it is MUCH more of an efficient petrol!
When you do apply for the Visa card, don't order one for your hubby/misses straight away, 'cos in a few weeks time, they'll offer one for them, together with ANOTHER 1500 free points!!

£140 is an awful lot of money to spend on petrol a month. On that sort of mileage, shouldn't you consider a diesel or (not my preference) an LPG conversion?0 -
Hmm i spend about 60 quid a month on petrol, but have started ditching the car and now using pedal power to work....lost half a stone and feel wide awake when i reach work...as for money saved spending that on meals out :^)
Ps tend use the old nectar card at sainsburys

hmm no, I don't need to lose weight and a 60 mile round trip each day might kill me on foot
£140 is a lot, but i do get around 36mpg... it's a nearly new car so I'm not going down the LPG route (plus the fact that the government will eventually tax that to death too)... surely there wouldn't be much to be saved getting 10mpg more in a diesel?
Thanks for your tips, looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and get a nectar card.
Asda used to do the best one years ago called Fill n Save - but sadly is no more!0 -

By my reckoning if you got 10mpg more having a diesel, you'd use 36/46 the amount of fuel (22% less by volume than you are now) so as long as diesel isn't 46/36 the price of petrol you'd save - I know I saved the 'buying a diesel car premium' on the car in about 8 months (I have a real life example to compare against as my old man has the same car in petrol with the same power engine - not the same size engine)There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0
