I realised after I posted, that only pids would display (you can find out what the pids relate to in task manager), try currports.

I have used tcpview on vista, didn't notice any problem, but don't have a vista pc available atm to check

Something strange though - the process column was hidden and I had to drag out the left columns towards the right before I could see it. Not sure why that happened but at least I can see what's going on, thanks again :beer:
