Upload bandwidth being used

Upload Bandwidth seems to be consumed by something on my PC, not sure what as I only have Windows Firewall and am not used to it whereas ZoneAlarm I'm always aware what's going on.

I did a speed test, download speeds are normal but the router ethernet link to my PC is blinking even when idle. No programs appear to be updating and it all seems a bit fishy. Done a spyware scan with windows defender so not sure what's going on, is there a way to check, anyone?

Easiest way is to install a proper firewall.

Thanks for that - I would have gone for zonealarm but they don't seem to be supporting vista.

Downloading Comodo now (10 min eta) hope it's compatible with vista. And I'll need to remember to deactivate the windows 'advanced' firewall too... :o

What sort of upload throughput is there?

Sorry if I'm teaching my grandmother to suck eggs, but all internet usage involves some sort of upload as well as download - your PC has to request the web pages, or e-mails, or whatever. So you can't expect to have zero download.

Yep, it's not installing. Zonealarm isn't compatible with Vista either, not sure what's taking Zonelabs so long to get things moving  Not installed 4OD recently or any software for that matter.

The usage seemed to supress my upload from a normal 110kb/sec to 49kb/sec. I only because suspicious after the router connection light and indicator light for my ethernet link to the PC started blinking continuously, it's not happened before or only a little. Could be that the bandwidth is lower due to time of day etc. but it just got me thinking. I don't have faith in this windows firewall no matter how much Microsoft big it up :o
