2 YO son not eating or sleeping!!!

:j  Hi folks! Hope someone can help me as I'm at my wits end!
My 2YO son will not eat fruit or veg and at the moment he's not actually eating anything! I've tried hiding them in all sorts of things but he suuses themout.
Also, he won't stay asleep at night, wakes at about midnight and won't drop off for a few ours! I think he is exhausted during the day and there's no way he can be getting enough vitamins?
This time last year he loved his grub, spag bol, casserole, even apples, but he just doesn't seem interested in food anymore.
Please help folks, I'm sure there'll be some tips for me out there! Cheers!
Sept. grocery challenge = £500 (221.60 so far!;))

Has he got ALL his teeth?

Is the Weather warm where you are?

Little ones often do this and still have so much energy... try not to make a big deal out of him not eating because he's getting lots of attention for the wrong reasons.

My little one demanded Crisps and Sweets and threw tantrums - I refused to give her this for meal times so she eventually got hungry and wanted food!!

I thnk he has all his teeth and it's not warm round her at the mo.
It's just that when he wakes up he can't seem to go back to sleep like my 4YO son, I think he likes his kip more!

Medised - works a treat.. costs a fortune though when you work out the amount yearly x 5 :D

Seriously though, how long has his sleeping problem been going on? Does he sleep in his own bed.. does he have a dummy... would a drink of milk/juice help him to settle... is he disturbing the house?

If he is not eating, he perhaps isn't getting enough food and is waking hungry but being a child, isn't sure what to do about this...

When my Daughter was doing this... we gave her Nestle Milk shake in SMA progress milk - she wouldn't eat but she would drink.. especially a yummy Milk shake.. and it's filled with lots of vits and Minerals and is probably the child equivalent of Complan!!!!
  • ......and in 11 year's time when he's a teenager, you'll be posting on here that he's eating everything in the fridge, and you can't get him out of bed!

seriously though, I do remember visiting the docs with wife and son (about 11 years ago.) He wasn't eating very much, and the doc did point out that kids will eat a balanced diet over the course of a month. The only problem is that this week its nothing but pasta, last week it was nothing but protein, etc. Don't worry. so long as he's getting nourishment, and theres no other underlying reason, he will get all the necessary vitamins and minerals, even although it doesn't seem so every meal time. (and said son is now 13, 9 inches taller than said mother, 18 kilos heavier, got into school 1st XV rugby team, got into NAGTY a couple of years ago, and I'm sorry to sound too proud. And as for sleeping, its just a phase. I really shouldn't start on that ........)

Don't worry, he's going with the flow, just make sure you do too.
    I can spell - but I can't type

he is 2.5 YO and has been in his own bed for 4 months. He started off no probs in it, but now he wakes up in the night. He still has a bottle of milk which sometimes settles him,but he's never had a dummy. He also has been waking up at 5:30 in the morning and can't be persuaded to go back to sleep!I think that could be right about his empty tummy being the cause of his waking!?
That drink sounds a great idea!

The only things he really eats are granary toast and philadelphia, marmite rice cakes, ice-cream! and milk and juice. Not a lot!

Honestly... give him 9oz of SMA Progress and Nestle (Choc/Banana/Strawberry)... he's getting the nutrition from this and will help him whilst he's going through this phase!!

No need to worry... and as for waking at 5:30... .. I am sure it's hunger!!!

I would be hairless if mine woke me at that time!!!

My daughter went through a stage like this about the same age! We gave her phenergan for sleep, just to get her back into her routine and it worked fab!
As for the eating she has daily vitamins, they look and taste like sweets, and she has minidex everyday which i cannot praise enough, it increased her apitite no end!!

Kids appetites do decrease sometime between 2-3 years old as their growth rate starts to slow down & they need less of everything. As long as he's eating something try not to let it stress you out! (hard when there is a lovingley prepared dinner in front of him & all he wants is one rice cake....believe me, I know!).
Have you tried asking him if he is hungary? If he says no, leave it half an hour then ask again! His meal times may simply need adjusting!
Have you tried letting him pick out something to eat or help you make something? I know it's difficult with that age but maybe giving him the choice between 3 things, like fishcakes or pizza or cheesey potato pie then encouraging him to make the fishcakes from tuna & mashed potato or decorate the pizza or stir up all the cheese & potato & pat it into a pie dish then watching it cook will make him more interested in eating it?
If he is happy drinking milk then personally I wouldn't add a flavouring to it, I'd let him have the stuff plain, don't tempt him with something falsely flavoured unless necessary IMHO. Whatever you do, keep him away from anything sweet, even naturally sweet like fruit, and espeically sugared in the 2 hours before bed!
In desperate times I have thickened milk with a couple of scoops of baby rice which really seems to help fill our son up, 2 teaspoonfuls is enough to make a cup of milk much more filling but still thin enough to drink through a spout;)
Finally, you could try adding a lavender room fragrance to his bedroom, you can get lavender plug ins but these are quite powerful, a couple of drops of lavender essential oil on a boiling hot face flannel in the room, or a lavender plug in on a landing or near his room might help him sleep longer.

    Good luck;)

It's not the false flavouring I was getting at - it's the SMA progress formula milk.

My little one would not eat, drink milk or sleep - I confused her into drinking Milk by adding flavouring, and was happy that she drank it because SMA formula is like a meal.
