I shop at home bargains for a lot of stuff, now and then at B and M bargains, also in aldi, very occasionally at Morrisons and the occasional bits and pieces from asda, dont shop much there though,

I tend to shop most days but I dont buy a lot of stuff, Im also still working my way through some approved foods deliveries from a while ago so I have staples such as lentils, pasta, curry sauce and rice from there.

I also use pound shops and superdrug for toiletries, mostly superdrug as their own brand tolietries are suitable for veggies and vegans and BUAV approved.

Used to shop online with sainsbury but find them quite expensive and Im rarely in Tesco for the same reason.

I check online with ASDA, Sainsbury's and Tesco for who is cheapest for whatever I need. Being retired, I have both the time and financial incentive to do so. Also, I'm lucky in having branches of all three near to me, in a convenient loop. It also gets me out of the flat.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

I tend to do the bulk of my shopping in aldi. I also do a monthly fill the freezer shop at Iceland, and get toiletries from home bargains. Very rarely do I shop at any of the big4 supermarkets now.

If you have a Farmfoods anywhere nearby you'll find the frozen veg and fish much better value than Iceland.

I do the bulk of my weekly shop in Aldi with a quick visit to Sainsbury's after. I still think a top up is still needed after Aldi but what I buy gets less all the time. I choose Sainsbury's as it's the nearest (fuel saving) to my Aldi.

I also get various storecupboard/freezer items in Farmfoods, Wilkinsons, Lidl and Asda when I'm nearby. Fortunately I have the time to do this but the basic Aldi/Sains is quick and easy.

Local shops first...butcher bargains. He knows me.

    Fruit and veg shop. Same.

Aldi next. The best place ever! Get all cheese, tins, pasta, rice, milk, cream, yogurts, cleaning stuff, washing tablets (bio, they are great), wine, and so much more that I can't think of now.

If I need more milk and bread, get that on the way home from work.

I usually shop mainly in Tesco but things that are too expencive/dont like the look of/haven't found I get in ASDA or Sainsuburys, checking M&S for discounted meat and morrisons for deals. I do travel a while to do my shopping and do some 'add ons' in the local shop. Aldi and Lidl I think are too far out to justify the journey when I dont enjoy the experience.

Main shop in T*sco, for staples, pulses from the Asian section, everyday value range and reduced items if we are lucky enough to be there at the right time. Some frozen veg not available in A*di, ie. soya beans, broad beans, spinach. Also frozen ginger and garlic cubes

A*di for 'super 6'. We have household of 6 mainly veges/vegans so go through a lot of fruit and veg. Menu is then planned around what fruit and veg we pick up reduced and at A*di. Also buy pasatta, olive oil, almonds and a few other things from here I prefer/ find better quality than T*sco, or better priced.

Bread and free range eggs are bought bi weekly at a farmer's market and the bread frozen.

M*rrison's occasionally for deals on Granose vegan burger mixes. Cheap cornflakes taste better than the T*sco ones etc.

H*me B*rgains for medical supplies, borlois candles (smell amazing and cheap), toiletries, muesli, brown sugar, coconut milk, sun dried tomatoes, some spices and sauces.

Chinese shop for fresh tofu, bean noodles, and seaweed.

A trip to big city Asian supermarket every 6 mos sees us stock up on spices, tahini, soya flour, cornmeal, peach leather, dried fruit and nuts, and henna (one daughter dyes her hair with it, much cheaper than Lush!)

Approved food now and again I will order when I see enough things we are interested in, particularly vegan products

I know it seems like a lot, but we are fortunate in that we can walk to A*di, M*rrisons, Chinese shop and T*sco and H*me B*rgains is short drive away, so although T*sco is usually a planned event, all the rest is picked up along the way.
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

What is it with people having problems saying Aldi, Asda and Tesco?

    .

    I've ALWAYS wondered about that.

All over the OS boards, people make coded references to brand names and supermarkets.

Is there some sort of etiquette that prevents us from saying Sainsburys, Morrisons, and Marks and Spencers?

Please could someone in the know let us know what is taboo about brand names?

    Thanks!

I think its to stop specific posts being dragged up when people do a search on Google. Years ago people used to post online codes and it was important that specific threads didn't show up on the google search engine.

Not so sure its so important now though.

Fair enough on the cost of transport but it's paying for the 'experience' that keeps Waitrose in business.

Thanks for clarifying, I guessed as much. I think for some it's become an incredibly silly habit. Do people really say I'm going to Sainsbobs or Mr A in RL? Perhaps it's a habit picked up from 'mom'.:rotfl:

We usually do Farmfoods and Aldi, but they are opposite each other here, so we only need to drive to one place, though at the moment we are doing the Morrisons Christmas vouchers so are just going there. The supermarkets here are too far from each other to make it worthwhile going to more than one, other than the Farmfoods and Aldi set up.
