Best option for 6 month line rental & internet?

Options
We are a bout to move, but may only be in our new place for 6 months. Any opinions on the best option for line rental and internet for this?

When we moved previously I ended up losing my pre-paid BT line rental as they wouldn't transfer it with me even though I stayed with them. We're currently out of contract so that's not an issue, but don't really want to end up signing for 12/18months to anything that we can't then take with us.

  • If there is coverage on Three then you might be able to consider the One Plan (and not rent a landline)... Their SIM only deal costs £15/month, gives 2000 minutes, 5000 texts, and unlimited data (with tethering, so you can make the mobile a Wi-Fi hotspot and share the internet with laptop / tablet / etc).

Three is going to offer their 4G service at no extra cost, so if you get a suitable phone and have a reasonable signal, it might be all you need.

I'm only suggesting it because hardly any landline deals seem suitable "off the top of my head" as most have long term contracts.

The company we are only allowed to discuss in its own dedicated thread ;) is AFAICT the only one that offers phone line and broadband as standard on a no min. term contract basis (unless you need a new landline installing). Including monthly club fee cost is £23.39/mth for phone line, inclusive evenings and weekend calls and unlimited broadband. No connection fee either. I think they charge P&P for the free router though and I also think you will have to return it if you cancel.

Other companies who offer no min/short term broadband tend to charge a connection fee and/or a premium on their normal 12 month contract broadband price, which can make it costly over, say, a 6 month stay.

Erm . . . could you give me hint to start my search?

So far it seems that talktalk is the cheapest/month:

Line rental - £15 and a few pence (£9.50 if you pay up front)
    Broadband - £2.50
    Unltd calls - £3

12 months contract, but haven't found out if it is easily moved if we move property. I have read some bad things about them on here though, including length of time to get connected.

BT want to charge me £30 to leave plus 30 days notice (I didn't know we were moving 30 days ago, but ho hum).

Line rental - £15.45 (if you don't pay up front - lose the up front payment if you move)
    Broadband - £13.65
Unltd calls - £7 (that's gon up - apparently to include 1/2 price mobiles - but they are included in most peoples mobile allowance anyway)

Much more expensive, but have had a reasonable experience with them on connections before.

    Are talktalk all that bad?
