MSE News: Scottish Power hikes prices by 8.6%

David Cameron just said look out for the Autumn statement,
which is likely to remove the 15% green obligation from the fuel bills. They will load it on somewhere else, but the fuel bill should drop by 15%. The !!!!!!! utilities will of course only drop their prices in April 2014, AFTER the winter finished.
If this happens, the people who were fixed to April 2014 should have stayed on it.
The people who moved to the 2017 fix would have had their most expensive winter ever, and then have to switch again, perhaps paying an exit penalty.
The March 2015 fix has the Freedom option, so switching to a new Scottish Power tariff in April 2014 is free, but there is an exit penalty for changing supplier.0 -
I would have thought if cammo slammo does drop the green energy they would have to pass that as on as such.?0

At least with EDF there is no penalties.0

I doubt that'll happen. They'll likely force price drops with near-immediate effect if the levies will come from other sources. The !!!!!!! utilities will of course only drop their prices in April 2014, AFTER the winter finished.
I'm well within the cooling off period but even so, that would only gain me an extra month at cheaper prices (~£5).If this happens, the people who were fixed to April 2014 should have stayed on it.
nPower's 2017 fixes have no exit penalty. Not sure about the others. The people who moved to the 2017 fix would have had their most expensive winter ever, and then have to switch again, perhaps paying an exit penalty.0 -
Funny, I set up my switch away from Scottish Power and onto a fixed rate this lunchtime...
Funnier still, I noticed that the prices on my Scottish Power 'Online Fixed November 2013' tariff appear to go up at the end of October, rather than the end of November. Is this right???
November 2013 ends 31st October 2013
January 2014 ends 31st December 2013
And yet, March 2015 actually ends 31st March 2015.0 -
This is likely because it's easier to distinguish tariffs that end at similar times by giving them different names, rather than by adding version numbers.November 2013 ends 31st October 2013
January 2014 ends 31st December 2013
And yet, March 2015 actually ends 31st March 2015.
e.g. Two tariffs ending on 31/03/2015 could be called March 2015 Fix and April 2015 Fix, with both being reasonable names.0 -
Full details and how it affects customers here http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/your-home/price-change/0

Will mull it over a little and see what the other two do

I wonder where. VED? Petrol? It really won't save people money if they just shift costs from one bill to another, unless they make it means-tested by adding it to income tax or something. On BBC News 24.
Nothing certain. The cost just get shifted elsewhere, but the idea is to lower fuel bills.
Personally I'd be quite happy with that since I don't pay income tax.
