Sorry saxysax - obviously I do not know the circumstances that lead up to this.

Ultimately all the insurer who paid out the £11k wants is the money due for the policy and if you have any way of paying this I would do so.

Why were there 2 policies on the same car?

If there is proof of dual insurance then one company may agree a refund (but there may still be fees).

The op states that the insurer tried twice to get the monthy payment from the bank. and there was no money there.

Are you kidding? Your son took a 12 month contract with the insurer and they have held up their end (by paying a claim of £11k) .

The policy has been cancelled for non payment and the insurer is right to ask for the amount due for the full 12 months (and any admin fees) as a claim was made.

If you can approach the insurer to pay in full and persuade them to reinstate the policy, that might be your best bet. Otherwise this cancelled policy may have to be declared forever and will cause difficulties in obtaining future insurance.

    I could not agree more.

Yes the small print is sometimes hard to accept - so people need to read it.

    Insurance is not a charity!

Don't get too hopeful, OP, if you are successful in any dual insurance claim, the refund over 8 hours dual cover is hardly worth the cost to you of establishing there was dual indurance!

This often happens at renewal. Not all insurers lapse policies at the same time of day, eg some at midnight and some at noon the following day.

In cases like this some hours overlap is inevitable.

Agreed Quentin. Just thought if they got the previous policy resinstated then they might get a refund on what they paid on the new one?? (without canx charges etc)

Still wondering why there were 2 policies running.
