Missed payment on car insurance

Hello Im new to the forum and glad I found you.
My son has missed his insurance payment on his car with admiral they tried to take it twice even though they was told there was no money in bank.
My son phoned them to make payments up to date but they refused to take the money and demanded the full amount for the rest of the year which was just over £900.
he tried to pay them again but they still demanded the full amount which he could not pay.
Now they have cancelled the policy and are asking for £1062.00 we dont mind paying the cancelation fee but why would we pay for somthing we have not had if the policy is not running how can they charge for it?
Any advice would be great.
Thank you in advance Dean

How many defaults did the policy allow for, one seems very low and most would allow more.

Cancellation fee usually consists of their time on cover plus an administration charge of maybe £50 - what was the total price of the policy, how long was he on cover for and how much was paid to Admiral?

The big problem with them cancelling the policy is that he may need to declare that forever.

Lots of companies wont even quote when he ticks the box saying he has had a policy cancelled.

He needs to beg, borrow and grovel to them. To stop the cancellation. After its reinstated then stick a complaint in.

Has he made a claim or had a claim made against him?

If so the full year's premiun will be due.

He should try hard to stop the cancellation and get the policy reinstated.

A cancelled policy will blight hijm for life as it has to be disclosed for evermore, and most insurers won't quote when there is a cancelled policy in your history

Thank you for all your replys,
Yes he had a claim made on the policy as he had a front blowout and damaged some barriers £11,000 was the bill we keep asking to pay for the monthly amount but they will not budge, looks like hes going to court nice world we live in today.

The op states that the insurer tried twice to get the monthy payment from the bank. and there was no money there.

Are you kidding? Your son took a 12 month contract with the insurer and they have held up their end (by paying a claim of £11k) .

The policy has been cancelled for non payment and the insurer is right to ask for the amount due for the full 12 months (and any admin fees) as a claim was made.

If you can approach the insurer to pay in full and persuade them to reinstate the policy, that might be your best bet. Otherwise this cancelled policy may have to be declared forever and will cause difficulties in obtaining future insurance.

No Im not kidding if you had any idea why he had no money in his bank you would not be so blunt.
Are you not seeing the bit we tried to pay this missing amount straight away!

One thing I need to ask that at the time of the accident he had two policys running one with diamond which had 7 hours left on it and one with Admiral which had been in force for about 1 hour.
Both are the same company which one should they have used for the claim?
    Kind regards dean

    Both of them.

Irrespective of them not accepting payment previously, it's still worth trying everything you can to get the policy reinstated.

Otherwise future cover may be so costly he will be on public transport a long time!

    Thank you Quentin,
Will give it one last chance and try to get it sorted,
Funny thing is on the diamond policy a driver hit his car while it was parked £500 damage he was uninsured and was being stopped by the police the owner of the car (his girlfriend )
Did not say its been stolen she gave him the keys so we have made a claim to her insurance but to date nothing they will not even relpy but diamond are dragging there feet trying to get out of it by saying have you got proof of who was driving and any witness. silly me thought a policeman would would make a great witness, but law states her insurance company is liable for the damage as the car was not taken without the owners permission.

Admiral offer customer the method of monthly ddeb, after numerous failed ddebs, they will remove that facility of the customer, and request payment for remainder of the year.

to claim admiral refused payments is highly unlikely, what they were refusing was the method of payment being ddeb,
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?
