Can Talkmobile do this?

Hi guys, 2 years ago i took out a 2 year contract with talkmobile. about 6 months into it i bought the galaxy s3 Sim free and started using that !!! my main phone.

i haven't used the talkmobile phone since that time but knew i had to honour the contract and paid every month in full by direct debit until the contract ended in august.

5 days ago i checked my bank to see they havent taken anything else out only to be astonished they taken out a further £25 for the month of sept, i immediately cancelled the DD and three days later (today) i received a letter asking for my dd details and that i have to pay a further £25 for oct

i then rang them to talk about it and the guy basically said because i hadn't rang them to cancel they kept it going. bear in mind i have received no letter regarding upgrade/cancellation/offers etc.

do i really have to phone them to cancel after a 2 year contract? he says he can cancel it now but id still have to pay that £25 for oct.

surely this isnt right? or is this how you do things on contract phones?

Your contract had a 2-year minimum term. You still need to cancel it when you no longer want it, which could be after 3 or 4 years for all they know. They're not going to cut you off unless you tell them you're cancelling. It would be unreasonable for them to cut you off without your prior instruction.
  • cheers, u know what. im just gonna pay it and be done wih it. cant be asssed with all this crap

    Hi Sam

That's the best idea, as refusing to pay would result in your credit rating being trashed for years to come.

As NFH has said all mobile phone contracts are on a "minimum" term, they don't suddenly end after the 24 (or however many months) are up. It's the same as if you took a contract out with Sky TV, or a Broadband provider.

It's not crap - you signed up for a minimum term. It's down to you to cancel if you no longer want it, as with most subscription services. :)
