  • Regarding the great Antoine De Clevecy Champagne offer mentioned on this site. Having never made an order with Sainsbury's before I thought this a truly superb deal. Without delay I quickly placed my order on the 31st of October. Everything went smoothly and I added a £2 jar of drinking chocolate and selected a delivery slot as advised. My bargain champagne was to be delivered between 7pm and 8pm on Sunday. I was chuffed to bits. On Saturday afternoon I received a text message stating that my order was in place and would be delivered as selected. Now for Sunday- received phone call at 5pm which I found a little confusing. I was told that there may be a problem with availability. What do you mean, I asked. Don't worry, said the lady, but we may have to substitute SOME of your order. The delivery driver will explain further, she added. I knew that 6 bottles were required to complete this order properly, so hence, I was a little concerned. Anyway, come 7.31 the Sainsbury's driver rang the bell. I opened the door with a smile and my arms stretched out in anticipation. Number 20?, he asked. Yes, I replied. He then bent down and picked up a jar of drinking chocolate. "That'll be £2 plus £2.95 for delivery", he said. "Sorry, but that is all I have for you", he then added. I told him the drinking chocolate was no longer required and after a few chosen words he left.

Contacted Sainsbury's today but they couldn't, or simply refused, to help. I was told all I could do was re-order. Unfortunately when I went to do this the 25% off for six bottles had been removed.

I think this is quite sad. I wonder If anybody paying the full amount had the same "availability" issues? The champagne is still available at £13 a bottle on the website and as far as I know has never been "out of stock".

This may all be normal supermarket practice but its left me feeling very low and frustrated.

My 1st order with Sainsbury. Tried to get the £8 a bottle champers (special deal), what was delivered was 6 bottles of Blanc de Blancs champers, total cost £63.82 i.e. £10.64 a bottle. This may be good value (I haven't tried the fizz yet) but I'm puzzled at Sainsbury's method of doing business - if I order a dog, I expect to receive a dog, not a cat.
    It's only rock 'n' roll ...
  • Sainsburys is particularly bad on wine deliveries as far as I'm concerned. Because they don't have a specialist wine section there is no guarantee of getting what you order, especially at times when there are offers on. I've had them turn up at the door on the day before a family party with 12 bottles of substitute wine. I don't bother ordering online from them now, if they have an offer on I go instore.

Tesco is much much better! Hoping they have a 25% off offer soon so I can stock up for christmas.

We are happy with our orders.

No substitutes on one and only one on the other, so I count myself lucky due to the exceptional demand they must of had.

With the first order codes worked out at under £3 per bottle so thank you Sainsbury!
  • Argh don't get me started on this!!!

Having never ordered online with Sainsburys before, I thought this was a great deal and perfect for some Christmas presents. Placed an order, along witha large monthly grocery shop, bringing it to about £200. Ordered 6 bottles at £13 each, with 25% off, and also used the £15 off code.

Well, delivery showed up last Saturday, 2nd November, and instead of sending 6 bottles at £13 each, they sent 4 bottles at £26.99 each! Meaning shopping was a lot more than expected due to double price of the items, and no 25% off as not enough bottles received. Also, the £15 off had not been taken.

I was about to decline the ENTIRE order, groceries, everything, but took pity on the driver, and phoned the call centre there and then. The guy agreed to contact my local store and check availability. Local store said, we're getting an order tomorrow, we'll phone you then to confirm, but we will honour the 25% off even if we deliver it a day or two after the offer officially ends. The guy could also see the £15 off code so said he would refund it manually.

They phoned the next day, confirmed stock, (someone has mentioned why put it online if they don't have it, it's all down to what your local delivery store has in stock, which differs), so we placed an order for the 6 bottles, which came on the Monday, the 4th, just after the offer had ended. 25% off didn't show on the bill, grrrr, but thought, I'll phone up and deal with it at the weekend when I have the chance. £15 off still not been refunded either.

Just phoned them, and after spending 33 minutes on the phone to them, and it still not being resolved, I'm fuming and will never order with them again! They said they have no record of me speaking to the call centre, and no record of me speaking to the store, and therefore will not honour the 25% off (and free delivery) as promised. They basically accused me of lying about speaking to anyone - I told them I would provide phone records. They have agreed again to refund the £15 and blamed a technical error.

The store is looking into who spoke to me and will be phoning be tomorrow, but I'm not about to roll over on this! Absolute crooks! What I also think is disgusting is the way they deal with substitutes. 1) On the page where they list their substitutes they list the price of the original item, but not the price of the substitutes. I think they deliberately try to mislead you over the cost. 2) Also this whole "estimated" cost thing is a load of jibberish, I've just had an order with Asda and if they substitute an item they give it you at the original price, they don't take extra money from your account, then quote up to 10 days to refund it if there's a problem! Think their practices on this really need investigating.

Anyone know how I stand on this legally? They put an offer, I agreed to buy, they accepted the offer, they then didn't make this, but then said they could but a day or two later, I accepted, but then they say no actually we're charging you 20% more??!!

Im having a similar issue, the delivery came without any paper work, and have just received a bill through the post for £79 . They havent heard of the offer, no the codes...
  • What a waste of time. Most of the delivery was substituted and/or left out so they charged me £40 for 12 bottles instead of £41 for 18! Sent it back.

My first online grocery delivery, won't be bothering again!
