Could you provide us with a brief summary...
I became self-employed in July, applied for working tax credit as a new starter, was asked to submit corroborating evidence for my claim to B&C Compliance after having to wait 6 weeks to find that out, was assessed by someone on the basis that I wasn't a new starter, got my claim rejected, finally got the letter asking for info for three months before July, sent in an appeal, and today - 101 days, an ignored appeal, two ignored letters from a Work Programme adviser and a further unanswered letter from my MP later, I am still waiting for a resolution. I want my life back.

Did you register with HMRC as self employed in July - this has nothing to do with tax credits (this bit). If you did not do this then the HMRC tax credits may well not believe you on that basis alone.0

I did, and I had plenty else to offer. Work done, publicity for work sought, work in the pipeline. But the rejection was made on the basis that I couldn't provide evidence of 30 hours of remunerative work for the three months up to the date of my claim. As a newly self-employed person, with a new starter's form, and a letter explaining that I had just signed off from JSA in order to go into business for myself, in July.0 -
How much did you earn ?0

Before July, nothing. I'll paste the details.
Edit: Never mind, I'll try elsewhere.0 -
Where's the War & Peace length email gone?
Don't mean to be rude op but the recepient of that email might of fell asleep reading it and has'nt fully recovered yet.
I'm with HBO on this though, can't see HMRC excepting your poetry reading and quiz show questions as gainful employment.0 -

The content of said "War & Peace length email" is still available to read via the link at the top of the post.
The quiz show questions are gainful employment - I have an invoice and bank statements to prove it. It wasn't enough to see me through this debacle, but it was enough to pay for food and bills for the first 6 weeks or so. The poetry reading isn't yet gainful, and I don't imagine it's going to be in a hurry, being what it is, but the point - if you'd paid any attention - is that my claim was made on the basis of being a new starter offering the services of a proofreader in addition to those things. As I write this, I have enough work in front of me to fill a 40-hour week for several months, though my main client can only afford to pay me £25 a week to do it, which is likely to take her at least 6 months to pay off.
But the decision has been challenged because it was made by someone who decided I hadn't given enough evidence to prove I was in 30 weeks of remunerative work for the three months before I even applied.
PS it's "recipient", "might have", "hasn't" and "accepting", and the recipient of that email was my MP. He's not allowed to fall asleep until he joins the Lords. xx

If HMRC have not dealt with your appeal or forwarded it to the Tribunal service, have you tried contacting the Tribunal Service directly. In some situations, where there has been unreasonable delay, you can ask the Tribunal to issue directions to HMRC.
Have you also submitted a complaint to HMRC regarding them not dealing with your appeal?
I agree it is ridiculous to ask for documents for a period when you are not claiming to be self-employed. But it doesn't surprise me unfortunately.
However, from what you have said, even if you provided evidence from the period when you did actually start self-employment it is not entirely 100% certain you would get it.

Blimey yet another who thinks it's big and clever to spell check and correct someone else's grammer....
I just thought your email was rather anal and lengthy, you may of actually recieved a response if it had been shorter, sweeter and straight to the point.0
