House insurance - using spouse's name for renewal

This question is out of pure curiousity. If I was to take out a insurance policy in only my name and lets say 2 years down the line I made a claim on there and the renewal quote came out too expensive, what is there stopping my wife from taking out a policy only in her name and she declare that "she has never made any claims" which is true because only I have?

I cannot recall any online quote engine asking if the household has ever made a claim, only the individual.

Unfortunately, to my knowledge, they all ask this and it will need to be declared.
In the past 5 years, have you or anyone living at the property made any home insurance claims or suffered any losses or damage, whether insured or not?

it was a spam attempt. possibly a bot. The board automatically removes links from new posters. So, often you see almost nonsensical posts like that. Just ignore it or press the spam button. If enough people press spam on the post, the post gets removed.

It would be swings and roundabouts because she cannot claim to have ever held any insurance and so will have no NCD/ any years of having insurance without having claimed.

However the question asked is normally broader than you think, for example on Confused.com it is:
Have you or anyone living at the property made any home insurance claims or suffered any losses in the last 5 years?

And thus the claim has to be declared but they still lose the years of no claims since the incident.

Agree with all above - insurers will ask about claims, accidents, losses for anyone living at the property.

If a claim is made you must surely expect to lose the ncd.

We exchange contracts on a house last fri and due to complete on Wed. Large willow tree in the garden now topples over but vendor says no more. Is vendor still liable after exchange but before completion, does anyone know? Will of course ask my lawyer but....

You should insure the house from exchange, because that's when you agree to accept the risks.

If the house burns down before completion the seller can still force you to buy the property.

Just to pick a few advice sites:

    http://www.actlegal.co.uk/faq/buying-house-faqs/30/
    http://www.goodwithmoney.co.uk/exchange-and-completion

However, I only discovered this recently, and my solicitors have never advised me of this fact when buying properties:eek:

I have insured the property from exchange so that's not a problem but the issue is who has legal liability as I am not yet the legal owner. Vendor's insurance expired in July and chose not to renew but my lawyers insisted that they do - not sure if they did or not in the end but would seem unreasonable for me to pay before moving in if I'm not the legal owner.

Exchange is just simply the commitment to complete on a certain date I would have thought.
