a rather strange funeral

As I said - I already knew what the arrangements were - and I think its lovely too! They were inseparable since Uncle got her - its only right she was at his funeral - and she behaved impeccably!
It IS the only funeral I have been to where the deceaseds pet also attended - and I wonder why this is so? They are often the only source of love and affection (though not in this case), but are excluded from the final goodbyes.
Trust Uncle to arrange HIS funeral HIS way, made me smile!0 -

Not sure I would have taken my dads dog to the funeral even if this had cropped up as something to do. In the last two weeks he became very stressed and distressed, knew obviously something was wrong and would sit and stare at dad, but not in a good way if that makes sense..?...poor little Oscar was not happy. My dad would have loved him to have been there, but I don't think it would have done Oscar any good at all.
It wasn't the best of situations though to be fair (family arguing, well more like tense around each other), and very stressful for everyone on loads of different levels which Oscar picked up on. He needed to be out and with his new family Asap (he was having night terrors etc) , new family was next-door, with lots of kids and fun....and no doubt food. He got on brilliantly in new home...bless.
So, anyhow after that bit of a ramble....i guess it depends on the dog maybe.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
I think it's lovely (as long as the dog wasn't stressed by it). I'd rather have my pets at my funeral than some people!
I hope the dog has an equally loving new home.0 -
Thank you all - to answer your Q first Arbroath lass - The dog is with Friend of Uncles who was a dogwalking pal. The two dogs are firm friends and she is happy in her new home.
I too think it depends very much on circumstances and the dog. Uncle knew what he wanted and the family were happy to comply. The dog is a total sweety and extremely well-behaved. I doubt if she 'knew' what the occasion was about, but she knew several of the mourners and didn't seem at all fazed.0
