a rather strange funeral

I went to my husbands uncles funeral today - I knew the arrangements, so wasn't surprised to see Uncles beloved dog jump out of the funeral car and line up with the family and go into the chapel of rest! This did provoke some comments from those around me. ranging from 'I should have known that dog would come' to This isn't the place for animals'!
I knew that Uncle had arranged his funeral last year - he went up the funeral directors and booked the dogs place in the car and made sure the dog would be welcome at the service (which was quite religious).
Uncle loved that dog so much - the photo on the front of the hymn leaflet was of Uncle with dog!
So what are your thoughts? I wont say what mine were right now.

Yes Flugelhorn - with a very good friend of Uncles who usually walked his dog with Uncle and J*****0

It sounds lovely.
If I ever get married (maybe one day!) I'd like my pooch at the wedding.
Suppose I wouldn't know if they were at my funeral, but I'd like to think they would be.0 -
Sounds the right order of things to me, why shouldn't the dog go as at what point did a human decide god wouldn't want a dog there.
My mums church welcomes all dogs etc, kids have been known to take their hamsters/rabbit/g.pigs etc. (some smuggled in to be fair) and the Rector wouldn't bat an eyelid. My mum however is of the "it's not appropriate" brigade......really annoys me to be honest.
Off to a friends wedding December and the dog will be going down the aisle with the best man......best man doesn't think a "man" should ever own a Bichon......which is why she's making him do it ,as he keeps taking the mick out of the groom when walking her. He will get to do it on in front of 100 people, and it will be on film for life.......lol.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Wonderful.
The dog was obviously the friend Uncle loved most and it would have been comforting to him, to know that the dog was there at his send off.
Do the Uncle a favour and when the dog eventually dies, sprinkle his ashes where Uncle is buried so their remains will be together forever.
Give me a loyal dog to see me off over a critical relative anytime.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

if the funeral director and the chapel of rest had no problems with the dog attending, then other people should keep quiet!Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500

I think it's lovely. The bond between man and dog is unbreakable even by death.0

I think I might have PMT at the moment but that made me tear up. Lovely that the dog would be there. My animals mean more to me than most people I know.0

I think it is lovely and a great idea of the deceased to sort the arrangements out first.
ALL of my family and my partner know that when I go, Rusty's ashes are to be put in my coffin with me and then cremated with me.
He was my baby, still miss him and if the new comer to the family ( Tibsey the cat) carries on being a little cutey, her ashes will be in with me too ! lol0 -
