Is my understanding below correct?
So in a nutshell Sharepoint is an application to allow businesses to sharedata, setup so that specific levels can read/write specific data.
This is done in the form of providing platforms and foundations for sharingdata and creating portals. This can be used for setting up Intranets, forums, bug lists, work flows and processes as well as being a portal for sharing/storing documents.0 -

I used to be the SharePoint admin for my team, there were 120+ of us all based all over the world, every continent except Antarctica. :0)
Used and administered properly it's a fantastic tool. It integrates with IIS and som CRM software. It has an MS Office look and feel so if users are familiar with Office applications they don't struggle to use SharePoint.
As someone who has spent most of his working life as a Unix/Linux admin/support programmer and Oracle DBA I'm not a big fan of M$ but I do like SharePoint.
You tend get problems because almost anyone can get a SharePoint site/intranet up and running but to do it well needs some investment in proper training and understanding of the underlying system.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
