Broken 47" LG TV (2yrs old)

Options
My £1000 LG tv has just decided to go on the fritz!

It only had the manufacturers 12mth warranty, and unfortunately I can't chase the store I bought it from under the Sale of Goods Act, as they went out of business a few months ago (how's my luck!).

Does anyone know what my options might be? Is there any chance I can chase LG on this, as I believe the TV breaking after 2 yrs would constitute a manufacturing fault, given that the TV is not mistreated in my house.

I had an air conditioner , which failed after about 18months, but the retailer is still in business. I argued that it was reasonable to expect a £300 item to last more than this time, the manager agreed, contacted the manufacturer and was able to give me a full refund, as the product was discontinued.

Although I had help from the retailer, their is nothing to lose by contacting LG, with the same argument.

Also, my son had a Sony tv, which broke down just out of warranty, so contacted Sony, who agreed to go halves on the repair bill, providing that a Sony approved company was used. However, the quotation was much, much higher than one from an independent so further bargaining resulting in Sony offering to pay the full cost (from the independent).
