Switching From O2 PAYG to Orange Contract

Hi all, I am finally about to purchase a contract deal after months of searching. I have found the W610i at the OneStopPhoneShop for £30p/m with the deal giving me 11mths half price line rental (so £15p/m).

As I'm currently on o2 PAYG I would really like to keep my number, but I am unsure whether you can switch your number from PAYG to contract.

The number would be going from O2 PAYG to Orange Canary 30.

Is it a lengthy/difficult procedure and would it just be better buying the phone and having a new number?

Many thanks.

Its not a difficult procedure, ask o2 for the pac code, if you have had it for more than 3 months then you usually get this straight away, then give the code to the company you are getting the contract from who will port the number, the pay as you go sim will then no longer work.

So I just give the code to OSPS and they'll do the rest?

Yes they will do the rest for you, if it was a contract then the company that you are signing upto handles all the cancellation of the current contract you have, they want the business so they will do all the work.

As I go to order it says I have to enter my exsiting number if I would like to keep it, but it does say "for orange customers only".

That will be if you are keeping a current pay as you go orange number and moving it to a orange contract, if there is not a section where you can enter the pac code then call them up and they will sort everything out for you.

No. Ports into Orange are done after the dealer has established the new connection. It is the responsibility of the consumer to provide the PAC to the recipeint service provider.

Ah thanks for that. I've actually decided to go with the K810i from Dial-A-Phone. 12mth O2 contract works out at £16.67 per month after cashback! Just had to order a credit card as they don't accept normal bank debit cards!

Was going to try and port my PAYG O2 mobile number to O2 contract but heard it's extremely difficult because you have to port to another provider and then port back to O2!
