Boosting my wifi signal?

With the cooler nights drawing in, I've adopted a very MSE habit of retiring to bed earlier - taking the iPad with me. This has made me realise how weak my wifi signal is. I'm tired of losing what I'm doing every 5 minutes if I dare move....What's the easiest/cheapest way to boost the signal please? (Idiot-proof is good too, I'm not technically minded!)

How about a home-made parabolic dish?

Yes, I know what you're thinking, but this is NOT a joke, I've tried it, it actually works!0 -
Ermmmmm.
(Yes that's me sounding slightly sceptical!)
I think the dog might find it amusing, but I'm not convinced enough to want to give it a shot :-)0 -
They really do work, I made one for our old router!!
edit: I made the windsurfer one at the bottom of that page.0 -
Do you have an old router lying around the house from a previous broadband setup? If yes, then it could be used.
Otherwise, the easiest way is probably a powerline network.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
How about something like this eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300Mbps-Wireless-N-802-11-AP-Wifi-Range-Router-Repeater-Extender-Booster-UK-Plug-/300734843532?pt=UK_Computing_Boosters_Extenders_Antennas&hash=item4605318a8c
Haven't used one myself, but the seller in this example has sold 8000+ of them?!0 -
I bought two of those, neither worked. The wireless didn't work on them so I couldn't even begin to set up. Didn't work using supplied cable either. Seller ignores messages too. I'm in the process of a Paypal refund.
Not located in Birmingham either. The seller is in China.
Rubbish instructions too.
I bought Net gear devices instead. Simple set up and they work!0
