gingin - HOW many cans? I used one can of acclaim the previous time and it worked within 12 hours. load of dead insect bodies! Staykill seemed to take longer but the one can did my average three bed terrace with enough left over to treat a few rooms.
there is also the 'smoke bomb' option - I would use that if I wasn't asthmatic! but it does deal with all the nooks and crannys so the guy in PAH told me. and another poster did tell me it was a very popular salutation in other countries.

If you are using something that only lasts one day, I suggest you change your treatment. I believe the way the treatments work is by getting into the cats blood so when the flea bites they die. I use advantage (but there are others) that last 4 -6 weeks. If you have an infestation you might be better treating the cat with one of the longer lasting ones.

I successfully treated my cat by just using advantage a few weeks ago, the house has been sprayed within the last year (indorex) however I didn't spray again when I found fleas. It did take a while for them to all die off but it worked with just that one treatment.

Stronghold works for my cat. But I know you have to be careful what you can give to kittens.

Luckily we've only had one visit from fleas and that was 10 years ago. I used a double dosing of the smoke bomb and that worked.

My cat takes Drontal to prevent worms.

Touch wood I haven't jinxed our track record.

I'm not just using that. I used Advocate already, and that's when we started seeing dead fleas...will continue the treatment for 6 months I think...
I also sprayed carpets, couch, mattress and soft furnishing with Skoosh...

Have I misunderstood OP but are you saying you are dosing your kitten with two lots of treatment - Advocate plus another daily treatment?

I don't think you should do that. Kittens can't take the adult treatments anyway till a certain age. Have a word with your vet. You could make kit ill if you overdose.

  • the advocate should be enough as any fleas that hatch will get coated in the products then die.
There is a stage in the fleas life cycle that wont be killed, so the only thing you can do in encourage them to hatch (e.g vibrations fromlots of hoovering) then they will be coated in the products and die. it can take a couple of months to completely go....

Capstar and Advocate can be taken together - obviously I would not give her Capstar every day, mostly because once they adult fleas on her are dead, there is no point until new ones appear...

My kitten is not super young - she's 3 months old - but I would like to reassure everyone by saying that I have spoken to my vet and this was done under his advice.

  • You may continue to see adult fleas for some time. The only life-stage that is not vulnerable to the flea-protection formulas are the PUPAE. These can lie dormant for up to six months and can be encouraged to emerge by vibrations from a vacuum-cleaner (as well as carbon dioxide in the air). As soon as they emerge they will be poisoned either by the Acclaim/Skoosh/whatever and the Advocate as long as you keep up with the treatments. If you ensure the home has been sprayed everywhere the cat may have shed the eggs then you will see an improvement quite quickly and complete eradication eventually. There should be no need to re-spray for another six months if you've done a complete job with the first one. Don't forget to treat the underside of the furniture as these are the places the larvae are most likely to head for so they can pupate.

Thanks for the reassurance Ozma. I've learnt something there about being able to use those two products in tandem :-)

Op you have my deepest sympathy, I went through this is September but they have cleared up now thank God. I was bitten to hell on my ankles by cat fleas.
I used Advantage on the cats, hovered continually, sprayed with Staykill. Stripped all the beds and washed the bedding, hovered the matresses and sent thick bedspreads for drycleaning.
Still I saw them and repeated the above and then got 2 flea bomb/fogger things. This is the last step before rentokill. Thank God that did the trick. Im suprised the hover didnt burn out,its never been on so much.http://www.pestcontrolsupplies.co.uk/insecto-bed-bug-destroyer-bomb-150ml. These are them.
Dont forget to keep hovering and hover both sides of the matress and to get rid of pet bedding and give your cat a new blanket as well.
Thats what I did, I hope you manage to get sorted.
