Flea anxiety! Please help :(

chances are you are going to find fleas until you've sprayed your house - as others have said, fleas don't live on your cat, but they can live in your house.

I have sprayed the house today... including the couch, and packed the old carpet away to be cleaned. My kitten left behind 2 dead fleas tonight

We've just had to deal with this for the first time too. Our entire last weekend was spent clearing, washing, hoovering, cleaning and spraying the entire house, it was miserable but I believe it's been effective.

I bought staykill while I was waiting for the indorex to arrive and it worked for 2 days and then they were back. We used 5 cans of Indorex on a good sized four bed house, I still didn't have enough to do a couple of areas but I know we went to extreme measures. I have seen nothing all week and will spray the house at the beginning of summer again.

Just make sure you spray soft furnishings as well as carpets. I'm sure mine made a home in the crevices of my sofa, so we took all cushions off and vacuumed in all the cracks. I threw away a big rug in my daughter's room as it was so shaggy and they seemed to have also found their way into there.

Reading online it seems that it's been a really bad year for fleas. I don't know how people cope if they don't get rid of them, it was such a huge job I don't want to ever have to do it again.

We have now switched to Advocate after using frontline, the fleas might have been jumping from your carpet onto your cat and dying once they bit them, so once you have treated cat and house thoroughly there can be nowhere for them to survive.

I think part of the problem is that 'everyone' has been using the same brand in the past! which has led to fleas developing a resistance. I hope vets have the sense to not use the same meds nationwide again! I am looking online for different ways of flea control before Barnes requires 'doing' again. and it wont be advocat as so many of you seem to be using it - because in ten years time we will be going through this massive flea infestation AGAIN!
and it has been bad! every pet owner I know has complained about it!

I sprayed the old carpet and wrapped it away while we wait for it to be taken away to wash (we have someone coming next week). In the meantime we put our new carpet in the living room, after hoovering, steam cleaning and spraying practically everywhere.

Yesterday I also sprayed the mattress and curtains in our bedroom, although we don't let the kitten in to the bedroom now until we know she's flea free. We also gave her Capstar yesterday, but today as I got back from work I saw a flea on the couch just after the cat had been there - it was alive, but struggling to move (I understand they are very fast?) and I was able to kill it very easily. I gave the cat another Capstar pill.

When do you think I should give her Capstar again? And some things (clothes, couch covers) I can only wash at 60 degrees - do you think that's enough?

please be cautious and not dose your pet too often, or you may end up doing more harm than good.

Capstar can be given every 24 hours - but as it kills fleas almost straightaway I am not going to give it to her again until at least a few days - possibly a couple of weeks? Hopefully never again fingers crossed!

Fleas can track in from other cats, walks in grass, even when you visit friends ...

never say never !;)
