MSE News: Scottish Power to pay £8.5m for mis-selling – are you due a share?

I completely missed this one and didn't know anything about it until I received an email tonight. As a recipient of the WHD last year and qualifying again this year, the £53 credit is greatly appreciated. As I expect it will be by all those in fuel poverty and struggling with ever increasing bills.0

Disgusting that most of the money is going to some of their richest poor customers. When is this idiotic policy of giving more and more money to those who do not need it end?
Not entirely sure how to take this comment?
Other than ill conceived, ignorant and downright nasty:mad:
I am quite sure there are millions of people out there that would much rather not need the WHD or this extra payment. As at least it would mean they could afford not to worry about putting the fire on and where the money was going to come from to pay the winter bills.0 -

What is ill-conceived, ignorant, or nasty about the comment? Clearly you do not know the facts about how the Discount is distributed otherwise you would not make such a (factually) ignorant comment.0 -

What was ill conceived, ignorant and nasty about it? You really need to ask?
So it is disgusting that most of the money is being directed to those customers that are already members of the fuel poverty club. That would be those customers who pay 10% or more of their income in energy charges. Clearly these people are among the "richest poorest" you speak of?
This includes many sick, disabled and elderly people. Also many families that have minimal income or happen to be unemployed through no fault of their own, or only have part time earnings to live on because that is all they are able to get at the moment.
In accordance with your post, these people clearly do not need the money and it should be distributed to those with hefty incomes and no financial worries?0 -
If you qualify, you get it... Nobody in their right mind would turn it down...would they ??0

That is precisely right, however the clue is in the word QUALIFY. You have to meet the criteria therefore you don't have thousands sat in the bank.
With SP;
The Core Group;
Pensioners must be receiving the guarantee element of pension credit. This is means tested.
The broader group;
Under the Warm Home Discount Rebate scheme, electricity suppliers can offer the Warm Home Discount rebate to households who meet certain eligibility criteria set by their supplier.
If you are a ScottishPower domestic electricity customer and someone in your household meets the ScottishPower Warm Home Discount eligibility criteria, that person can apply for the Warm Home Discount rebate. To qualify for the Warm Home Discount you must receive at least one of the following benefits:- Income Support
- Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
- Income Based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Your total gross household income is less than £16,190
In addition to the above you must also meet at least one of the following criteria:- Have a child who was under 5 on the 1st of April 2013 permanently living in the house (born on or after 1 April 2008)
- Have a child entitled to free school meals
- Receive Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit which includes a disability element or severe disability element, disabled child element or severely disabled child element or family element
- Income Related Benefit which includes a disabled child premium, disability premium, severe disability premium or enhanced disability premium
- Income Related Benefit which includes a Carers Premium
- Employment Support Allowance which includes a Work Related or Activity Component or Support Component
- Receive Disability Living Allowance, Incapacity Benefit or Attendance Allowance
- Be aged 62 or over
- Receives exemption from NHS prescription charges
These groups are not people sat with wads of cash in the bank, they are people that are struggling in one way or another.
Nada666 is bang out of order to describe these groups as the "richest poorest" and people that do not help.
It was ill conceived, nasty and ignorant to make such comments!0 -
You understand you are posting data that backs up my point, don't you? Are you really so blithely unaware of how poor people live? Or do you simply not care?0

I am quite aware of how poor people live thank you very much, I happen to be in one of those groups myself. As a disabled person with a small family, I have existed on means tested benefits and I can tell you it is no joke and exist is all you do. Living from one week to the other and having to make food stretch. Going without things yourself to make sure your child gets the things they need.
Conversely I have also lived on the other side of things before my health failed and things went wrong. Receiving a good salary and being able to afford the better things in life with ease.
I can tell you which side of things I would prefer. If you really believe that people like me who get the WHD are the richest poorest, then I suggest you try living like we do for a month or two, then you might understand exactly what it is like. However no doubt you prefer to sit on your pedestal spouting crap all day about something you don't know.
You are a nasty, spitefull, ignorant person:mad:0 -
You are a nasty, spitefull, ignorant person:mad:
After you have paid for your housing how much money per month do you have to live on? Or are you too embarrassed to admit just how much you have coming in? How many days per week do you live on nothing but potatoes, porridge and cabbage? I suspect your snout is well and truly in the heated trough. (Do you work more than 16 hour per week, yet? Are you one of these parents who magically managed to find you could, after all, work 24 hours when the rules changed?) You do not care a damn about all the poor. I post advocating fairness for everyone - not just those that yield easy political claptrap.
Enjoy your warm, cosy home. Never mind the poor, what do they matter? Why should you share what you have more fairly with others?
Don't worry. Seems that the cold causes cancer. Us scum will be dead soon enough.0 -
Once again a stream of garbage comes from you NADA666.
Why are you nasty?
Take a look at your posts on any number of threads throughout this forum. It's not just me that says it.
Why are you ignorant?
Anyone who can come up with the garbage you do, clearly has no understanding of the real world.
Why are you spitefull?
I refer you to the many spitefull remarks you make on the many threads you post on. Upsetting people all the way along the line.
You suspect my nose is well and truly in the heated trough - I rest my case.
You nothing about other peoples circumstances and what they have to go through. I will tell you this much though I would swap having my health restored to what it was rather than having chronic pain and incurable conditions but of course you are always correct and I am just another sponger, living in the lap of luxury and taking money from those more needy than I.
As for my income, that is nobodys business but mine especially on an open forum, however as someone who qualifies for the WHD through disability common sense should tell you that I am far from rolling in money every week. Suffice to say my weekly income after housing costs is less than that of a single pensioner and there are 3 of us.
You really should get your facts right before spouting rubbish about other people.
Regarding the working 24 hours a week thing, get your facts right before opening your mouth. I am disabled and therefore only need to work a minimum of 16 hours a week actually. I choose to work, albeit only around 20 hours a week, mainly because my health will not let me cope with more. (Although of course I made all that up and am just screwing the system to take more away from the needy in society.) However as previously stated I would swap anything I own to have my health back and be able to do the things I used to do, which most people can.
I think you need to have a word with yourself personally!0
