What you have set up are direct debits to your bank account, you can do that no matter what card you have linked to it.

You have no automatic right to return the box and get a refund.

You don't have to use a credit card, you can also use a debit card. You have neither. The Now TV website that you said you looked at clearly says the Maestro and American Express are excluded.

It's not the stores fault that you bought an item you didn't research beforehand. It's also clearly stated in the catalogue and online that this item is excluded from the 30 day MBG.

They do accept debit cards, just not Maestro cards.

I found it fairly easily by searching the help section for "payment" (the only place I saw it after a quick glance through the site. That probably doesn't help your case however.

    ............

Do you work for Sky or Argos as the link is from the nowtv forums as far as I can see.. which is buried in the help section..

Anyway WHY don't they display a link like (Important Information) on the main webpage... this would stop a load of people with the same problem as me...

The ISSUE here is NowTV and Argos NOT displaying which card details is needed Properly to customers, not hidden away...that is wrong to me..

it's the usual story of companies trying to get away with what they want..

No, I don't work for them and the payment info isn't "buried in the forums," it was (fairly logically) found under "For more FAQs about the NOW TV Box including deliveries, returns or cancellations please go to NOWTV.com/nowtvboxhelp"

I've been to the site maybe 2 or 3 times before tops, it really isn't that hard to find.

And I see in a later post you essentially threw the suggestion of getting a new debit card which is more widely accepted back in my face (which wouldn't take more than a five minute call to your current bank and would stop this issue from reoccurring in future.) Fine, you seem hell bent on getting a refund rather than finding a way to use the product that a few days ago you apparently wanted to use so best of luck but I'm done with you.

Getting a card that isnt maestro will be useful in the future as I was under the impression maestro cards were being phased out.

    basically yes

This effectively meant that practically no UK banks will be issuing Maestro cards, except in Northern Ireland. However, in 2013 Bank of Ireland (UK) launched a new range of current accounts in Great Britain in partnership with the Post Office, and these come with Maestro debit cards.

I bought on of these and they clearly said cannot be refunded and it said on receipt too.

If its faulty you can though.

It's probably non-refundable because it contains a voucher with a code for a few months service.

I can certainly see some people buying it, using the code then returning for a full refund.

Argos probably have the same policy for things like Microsoft Points and iTunes vouchers.

    Would a pre-paid C/Card be a solution here?

Probably fairly expensive but as I suggested to the OP their bank does offer MasterCard Debit, seems like a fairly easy solution to the problem.

Not only the current problem but others going forward (international sites that don't accept Maestro, subscriptions etc)

They may get declined, but it seems like the most logical first step.
