Serious question about....taps

Looking for a kitchen sink tap

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy a tap from? Seriously. There are so many sellers on ebay and amazon, i don't know where to start.

The high street retailers are fairly pricey compared to ebay/amazon/taps.co.uk.

Assume thats just because they generally rip you off.

But also don't want a tap that will only last a year or two.

First of all I think you need to identify what kind of tap you want & if you prefer a particular brand & model. Once you've established this then shop around, including the internet, to get the best price.

I desperately wanted a Perrin & Rowe tap for my new kitchen that was installed earlier in the year & was lucky enough to find one on Ebay that was being sold at half price as it was the only one the company had left.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I don't have a specific tap in mind. More concerned with a good price and decent quality.

Its a general thing, most places seem to do very similar designs

Although a lot of taps look really similar online, if you buy a cheap tap you can really feel it when you use it! Go to a few showrooms and try some taps. You can get away with very cheap sinks if you put decent taps on them!

Once you've found a tap you like, price compare online as you'll probably be able to get it cheaper than in a DIY store. But I wouldn't buy a tap online that you've not seen in the flesh.

Try a local plumber's merchant, they'll often be cheaper than the DIY sheds and usually have a decent range.

I agree that quality is paramount when buying stuff such as taps.....cheap ones may look the part but won't wear/last well. We always buy either Perrin & Rowe or Barber Wilsons for kitchens or Hansgrohe etc for bathrooms.

Like Cattie we have occasionally picked up some good bargains on new items from eBay (I'd buy used, but only if they were antique/vintage), and last year found some brand new but minus their box P&R for our utility for only £30 + p&p! Usually though we bite the bullet and go to an independent showroom......'you get what you pay for' as my old grandma used to say ;):D

Totally agree on the quality aspect and it is important but I should say we're first time buyers, with little £££ left in the bank..

So those mixer taps that have an extendable end seem like the best fit for us (doesn't have to be those wiry, bendy ones)

Is £50 for one of these asking for trouble?

Does the extendable bit just cause more hassle than its worth?
