You need to make the other cat know quite clearly that it isn't welcome in your home. Water pistols are great for this.

I think the care of Harry the interloper is on the edge, he is very thin and flea ridden, is out in the cold and the wet and looks miserable. The issue is that he chooses not to be with his owner, I suspect because he has lost out to his sibling who seems much happier.

I will suggest CP to my neighbour, but I do not expect a positive response!!

If the owner isn't worried about his deteriorating condition, I would take it to CP as a stray.

    I agree with Mojisola.
Life for a skinny, flea ridden cat is only going to get worse in winter with rain & cold. I think it could be life threatening for him.

Its difficult to know whether to just take the little mite straight to a vet and/or RSPCA/CP or whether to have the conversation with the neighbour first.

Either way you risk upsetting the neighbour but at least if you take the little mite to the vet then he gets immediate treatment and a diagnosis for you to present to the neighbour and if necessary to the RSPCA/CP.

The cats welfare has to be paramount.

I very much doubt that a vet will treat a cat brought in without the owners consent unless it is a stray. of course they may well scan the cat and if microchipped could contact the owner???????? might put a boot up their arriss to do something about the poor thing?

    Good Point, Meritaten.
Does OP have the money to say to the neighbour that she'll take the cat to the vet for her. So with the owner's permission the cat could be wormed and de-flead. And checked why its so skinny if not worms. And have a general health check with recommendations for the owner.

But then what happens from there on. I guess I'm straying into the territory of - its none of your business and you can't solve every problem.

But this little mite does appear to almost be a case of cruelty. I guess only OP can tell if it's as severe as I'm interpreting from what she's posted.

Why is that difficult? Of course you have to talk to the owner before you steal their cat and pass it onto a third party to rehome so that they never see it again, or take it to a vet knowing absolutely nothing about its medical history.

It seems their other cat is healthy and happy, so they aren't just evil neglectful owners. There could be anything going on with this cat that the OP doesn't know about, she can't just make it vanish!

    Yeah you're right Person One.

But I didn't mean for the cat to be re-homed. Just treated for his conditions and the neighbour spoken with. Although if the neighbour can't or won't cope then maybe the re-homing idea would be worth putting to her.

It seems the talking has been tried but the cat's condition is still deteriorating and the owners aren't concerned.

Another conversation is needed before taking the cat away, where the intention to do this is clearly spelled out.

As I said, there could be all kinds of explanations, and the owners don't owe it to their neighbours to tell them all their business.

Another invasion today through the front door, cat and I were in front garden enjoying the sun, Harry the interloper seemed to fly through the front door followed by our cat in hot pursuit, eventually managed to eject Harry and our cat then took half a day to recover.

You are all right, another conversation with the owner is needed. (plucks up courage....)
