But I do feel this isn't fair. Had he been convicted, she'd'v e gotten compensation from criminal injuries. He may not deserve recompense as such, but he has lost his job, mud sticks, his family were threatened and libelled.

Sounds daft, but why did he lose his job? If it was over this false allegation, then perhaps he should go and ask for it back?

Personally I would be pressing charges against the girl for false accusation. A woman was recently jailed for 16 months for accusing a taxi driver of raping her. The evidence is there, so go for it!

The other option is sending a "Letter Before Action" claiming financial losses due to her false allegation, but if she doesn't pay up, and you win in court, then you are relying on her actually having some assets to pay with!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

If the evidence was there, surely the police would have started the ball rolling on a prosecution? After all, if it happened exactly as stated here she wasted plenty of their time.

Does the girl and/or the family have any assets at all? If so you could probably completely destroy them with the evidence you have.

    but

he probably hadn't worked there long enough to do anything about it. :(

Although, of course, he could ask

    He hadn't, about 2 months.

It is that easy, but the police need to refer the matter to the Crown Prosecution Service, who need to decide whether a prosecution is in the public interest.

It appears the police have not referred her to the CPS, as due to her age, mental state, family problems, the chances of a successful prosecution are remote.

The police advice was to ignore it all and it will go away, and to have a word with the family. Although the lads mum did say the police were brilliant and very supportive throughout the investigation, even whilst the initial questioning and taking of swabs for evidence.

Whats it to do with you? Why are you so bothered about it?

I'm bothered because a lad who was a bit of a pain in the butt after leaving school, got himself a job and was beginning to enjoy working, enjoy having cash in his pocket and was beginning to see the virtues of a better lifestyle. The rug has now been pulled from under him viciously, and whilst his poor mother is trying to support him and the rest of the family, carry on with her own courses ready to return to work when the youngest goes to school, he's just sitting on the sofa bemoaning the fact that it's no point applying for any more jobs as no one will give him a chance because of his reputation.

Our eldest was once a pain in the butt, but has turned his life around, and is now the wonderful lad that we always loved. I'd have been devastated had he been judged as a waste of space for evermore due to the lies of another person.

Anyhoo when his mother described feeling 'everything just drain out of me, it felt like my heart stopped, my mouth was dry and for a while I just couldn't move or speak.' I felt carp that no one had been there to support her, still no one is supporting her and sometimes just having a target of getting something done/ensuring no one else can be harmed similarly is enough to help you recover.

I'd hope that someone would be willing to spare a few minutes to ask for advice on a forum were in similar circumstances.

They do, but the family would never do that, they have other, younger children and despite everything, they're not vindictive, his mum jut wants him to have the opportunity to get back to 'normal'.

I think the publicity angle is possibly the best way, the police won't prosecute, they favour a softly softly approach to youngsters in our area.

I agree that he should sell his story, start with national newspapers though and work down to local papers. I know it's not about money but they will pay more and since he's lost his job he may as well benefit financially or if he doesn't want to then he could donate the fee to charity.

How is a load of publicity going to help return things to normal? It'll surely just keep the situation in people's minds and invite even more opinions from people who have no idea what's actually happened.

Nobody benefits from the media getting their hands on people's private lives and problems, except the media usually!
