Tesco online banking security, where is it stored?

As a few of you may know, if you use Tesco banking online it requires that it recognises your computer and if you clear your cookies or history it no longer recognises your computer.

Or if you use a different browser.

I am having problems with IE 11 so I downloaded Opera to use, after I had re-established Tesco internet banking using IE11 as that was where my favourite was stored.

Of course, when using Opera, Tesco no longer recognises my computer.

Does anyone know where Tesco store their info on my computer and how I can transfer this to Opera and also how to transfer it onto a second computer?

All without Tesco thinking I am trying to compromise security?

  • I tried to log onto my Tesco banking after having to clear cookies etc. I was sent a code on my phone which I could use to log in from any computer/browser. It then asks you if you want to make this your computer to log in from.

How bizarre, I've never heard of that before. Is this just a Tesco thing or do other banks adopt this practice? It seems very limiting.

I'm with HSBC and can access from any computer so long as I memorise by login ID, my first place of work (permanent security question) and have the little Secure Key Generator which HSBC supply their online customers with. I can't imagine being tied to one computer :(

Well you've heard of it now.

Even using a different browser for the on set up produces an error.

  • I'm a bit fed up of it as well. Everytime I log on, it doesn't recognise my computer. This is despite the fact that I have chosen the option for my computer to be recognised. the only time I can access without getting a code sent is if I log on for a second time in a day. It's not a deal breaker as it doesn't take long to add the code, just a bit annoying

I wonder if they store what browser you're using then.
For that extra piece of security.
  • I should also add that I do like the fact that I have been phoned by Tesco several times about transactions. I do appreciate the calls( although I always refuse to answer until I have rung them)

Of course they do - just in case you are not using Tesconet Explorer. ...

It's disgraceful. They should let you access your bank account without any security...

    Or not.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?
