So pleased to have done this challenge. Just over £84 this month, a bit of cheating really as I didn't count christmas food but then my Mum bought a lot of that.

I'm well in to my budget for January with 20 days to go until payday  As I'm planning on reducing my budget to £200 (from £250 in November) I'm thinking about just taking that cash out and shopping using cash only for food.

I normally like to use a credit card so I can earn extra Clubcard points, but I don't want to forget to transfer money or overspend by not keeping careful track.

    What does everyone else do?

    Hi Moomin

I have been doing exactly the same as you - buying on my credit card to get points then paying off each month - what I haven't been good at is stopping spending on the credit card and then running up larger amounts and over the past 3 years it has resulted in balance transfers to 0% cards and trying to pay them off. :(

I have for January changed to a cash only budget and I'm hoping this will prevent my overspending.:)

I'd be interested in what you decide.

    Happy New Year All.

  • Had a spend yesterday of about £10, had to get unexpected bits and bobs for poorly DD1; so declaring slightly over. Still pleased as gone way more over budget previously, and that's without factoring in Christmas then.

Will update sig for the year and move to the Jan thread properly. Though no immediate shopping planned at the mo.

Thinking of you at this sad time Nick.

  • Happy New Year to everyone!
This will be my last post on the December thread. I spent £7.38 on Sunday. This brings my spend to over £600 for the month. I've got mixed feelings about this. On one hand it was way over my budget but on the other hand that's what I was spending in a normal month before I started this challenge. Since December isn't a normal month I won't worry too much.
A big well done to all those who came in under budget.
See you all in January!! :)

Didn't quite make it to the end of the month without another shop (12.34 in ald1) so now declaring over budget 293/280. But that's not too bad as we used to spend about 350 each month. I'm off to January. Happy new year!
Grocery challenge: dec 294/280, January 250/250, February 168/200:T march 258/260
  • I don't know where this year went, but I have £15 left at the end of it, which is pretty good! I've used this in sales for a new pestle and mortar and some mulled wine spices.

Now it's time for the January thread!
  • Is the jan thread up and running yet?
That voice in your head that says you can’t do this is a LIAR!
