The switch will take place immediately, ie from the meter readings you give them.
I have yesterday switched from the fixed til march 2014 to the blue promise 2015. Like others I was undecided whether to switch or go to the end of existing tariff.
They have produced a bill today up to the changeover readings, so everything went OK.

I switched yesterday from the March 2014 to the 2017 promise and like you say the switch was immediate.
They have not asked for current meter readings and the next readings/bill were due mid Dec.
Have not decided whether I should submit now or in Dec and let them calculate an estimated one month on the old tariff.
It depends on weather for the next 2 months if an estimate is to my advantage or not.
  • I am also on this plan with EDF currently spending £113 a month but for my postcode Scottish Power work out cheaper than EDF on the same deals fixed until March 2015 plus there is £42 cashback off quidco. They are also cheaper on the 2017 deal the only difference being EDF is fixed until March 2017 & SP Jan 2017.

I just can't make up my mind whether to go for the 2015 or 2017 option. If I take the 2015 option then I should be on a winner as it will take around 2 months to change over plus the cashback but the 2017 option will cost me an extra £270 a year.

Yes when I switched on line there was no mention of meter readings so I rang them later and gave them, I suppose I could just have entered them via my account online.
This prompted a bill to be raised.
Depends if you want to gamble on their estimate being to your advantage.
