I'm of an age where I can remember when the energy companies were privatised. What is happening now is what was said to be highly likely: They will put the interests of shareholders before the interests of customers.

The Co-operative Bank at this time is in an even worse position in risking being taken over by American Hedge funds which will take an even more aggressive stance in maximising returns for their shareholders.

We should not be surprised when these companies put returns to their shareholders first because that's what they're supposed to be doing. At least we know the price we're paying now and the only uncertainty is what we'll be paying around this time next year.
  • Have been trying to move to npowers 'fixed' rates for the past few months - no response to my phone calls for update and 'emails' to their complaints website. Will be taking this up with Energy Ombudsman. I have logged all calls and emails. Wait time on their phone numbers is 1 hour plus much of the time. Anyone else experiencing this with npower?

you might not like to hear this but there is very little to achieve by dissing the providers and lots to gain by changing consumption behavior and that is going to be the only money saving idea for a long long time

"switch" "switch""switch" it is just a cliche because when you switch you realise that your new provider was just waiting for the bunch to "switch" to increase their rates :rotfl: and those who advise you to "switch" get a share of their commission. It is clever business sense. As a consumer, you have to beat them all at their game. i only look for ethical factors these days to "switch". i can afford to pay the bills but i am very mindful about how i use electricity, gas and other utilities. My main problem area is my using the electric sewing machine. However recently i dragged my grandmother's pedaling sewing machine home and do the basics on them - wonderful exercise for the calf muscles. Save energy, go green, save the planet and ofcouse whilst at it, save money too. Your behavior as a consumer should change.

You seem to have missed the missive from Ofgem instructing suppliers to double the cost of supplying frugal households. Those who do cut their use and already use a minimum faced increases this year of 70 to 100%

this energy metrics make very little sense to me, i shall admit that but what you say makes least sense of it all

in any case ofgem doesn't instruct suppliers anything; they merely control the profit they make by monitoring revenue - also it is an outlet for the moaners and chronic complainers who refuse to do their share but keeping blaming the energy supplying giants

Sorry but trying to find out if other people are having problems switching to 'fixed tariff' at npower and how they have dealt with this.
I already try to keep my gas and electricity consumption as low as possible
  • Next phone conversation with npower about fixing price - took them 20 minutes before talking to human!! Transfered to 'Complaints dept' on phone over 40 minutes. Assured that my complaint being investigated and my request for 'fixed price ' back dated to sept 2013 - I will see if that happens!!!!

Something could be whooshing over my head. Are you being sarcastic or advocating households do lower their consumptions?

Assuming I am not being dense and you are serious then I repeat. Those households who already are using a minimum are facing increases of their bills of 60 to 100% due to changes Ofgem have directed.

We are on their GREEN TARIFF (100% renewable electric), so we are absolutely astounded that they want to raise our bills!

    * anyone know another 100% renewable electricity supplier?
