Lieja Isn't it annoying, i guess sometimes they don't even realise they are being the way they are! It comes natural to some people but then her mother is quite pretentious, so i guess it has rubbed off.
emz118 I love the upcycled/shabby chic items. My eldest DD (15) has two items in her room that i bought on Ebay. I never seem to find the bargains to to restore stuff myself.
swingaloo We don't normally mind the way we live, until other's comment. Which although a ten year old will "say as they see" like someone else said here, i still find it rude that somebody would comment. I wouldn't go into someone else's house and comment and neither would my DD's.
You are right it is a home not a statement. It's a pity others don't see it like that. My ex was staring at the ceiling when he first visited and commented on the wallpaper, as if it was my choice. I can't under stand him being like that though, !!! his own parent struggled and never had anything elaborate in the house he grew up in.He's army so had everything accommodation/furniture wise handed to him on a plate, and has forgotten his roots. This must rub off on his stepdaughter and son and they way they are in other people's homes.
mum2oneI have found something similar to the wardrobes, but general shelving, since posting this, so feel a bit better about things.
You're right, my daughter is great and i am glad the attitude of her stepsister hasn't rubbed off on here, with the " we have bigger and better attitude".
inkie I am not on Facebook anymore, but will see what i can sort out on Freecycle etc. However, because of the shape of her room, and the type of stairs. Nothing can be carried up and just placed in the room, it has to be flat pack and a certain size. I've decided to concentrate on getting rid of the stuff out of the boxes, and once we are in the position to get a proper wardrobe, i have two alcoves in my room, which they would fit into better, and so i can always store their clothes in their if i am not able to get a tallboy. Most off DD1s stuff gets folded and put in her cod ( though she is short of space too) as it's mostly leggings etcGC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 Jul £134.25/£150 Aug £119.37/£150 Sep £170.48?/£150 Oct £37.21/£180 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. dandelionclock30 Ours is kind of a combination of that and moving from somewhere with an attic or a shed, to now having neither. So anything that needs to be in a shed/attic is on display. OH and obv, DD2 has the attic here as that's her room. However, rent is a damn site cheaper, which is why we have downgraded.
pukkamum Unfortunately no Ikea nearby, but they look like a great idea.
paulineb We have lots of things like that in her room, but its finding somewhere to store those things if that makes sense. I have found a canvas shelving unit which i know will be suitable as we have some foldable canvas boxes that were housed on one previous. Then we moved somewhere where there was no room for it, so we had to get rid. So i think this may help alot, and i can always paint it or dismantle it if we are ever in the position to replace it. Hopefully this will help alot.
carefullycautious My room is like that. Old curtains in suitcases under the bed. Old clothes in bags. I need to tackle Ebaying those, but it seems like a losing battle every time that i have previously listed clothes. I am going to tackle DD's storage situation as for now, she has somewhere to house her clothes. That will be the next thing on the list Once we evaluate what space is left in the room for a tallboy or alternative.
ostrichnomore Yes she has an alcove, but it's really short and wide. I had suggested this previously to my Dad but it kind of got forgotten about. I am going to see how the situation is once we have moved her toys and bits and pieces and got it looking a bit better.GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 Jul £134.25/£150 Aug £119.37/£150 Sep £170.48?/£150 Oct £37.21/£180 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. My youngest d/s who is 16 has the small box room in the house so doesnt have a lot of room in his bedroom, when we decorated it i bought storage boxes for under his bed so that he can put his clothes in, they serve a purpose they store his clothes and allow him to have a computer desk in his bedroom which to him is much more important than a set of drawes or a wardrobe. Dont let other this get you down, life is too short to be worrying about not having a wardrobe for your daughter. Make lots of memories that she will remember not debt that you will remember. :-)

I have exactly the same sentiment, but when other people look around your home like something they have trodden in their shoe it's hard. I feel like from the moment i left home, got married, divorced and now, we have just about been treading water. However, like you say; memories are more important than debt. That's one thing i have managed to almost combat. Have tackled the O/D, just owe money on a social loan (borrowed to move) and to my Dad (borrowed for the deposit); but nobody big or scary.
Onwards and upwards hey .. positive thinking.
