Which solid fuel makes least amount of ash

I just installed a 5kw multi fuel stove, and only tried smokeless fuel so far... Homefire ovals, excel, supertherm, blaze and maxibrite. None of which impressed me in terms of ash residue.

I tried to find out on google which solid fuel (hardwood, briquettes, hotties, smokeless coal etc...) left the least amount of ash, without much luck.

What's the best fuel in that respect according to your experience?

Thank you

Anthracite. Leaves clinkers instead of ash. !!!!!! to light but burns long and slow

If you are looking at low ash then it needs to be wood
  • Wood without a doubt. Briquettes may leave a little bit more than traditional logs, but that's probably because they have a lot more wood packed into the same volume (a lot more heat too).We only take a bit of ash out of our stove once a week or so when it's on every day.

I don't think I emptied our ash pan last year, maybe once and that's burning most nights and burning hard too - wood only, not fussed on hard or soft!
