If a rescue space is available and it is a no-kill rescue - try to arrange a transport - it may be impossible to find another rescue space.
Some people on here will know of voluntter run transport to rescue help sites perhaps?
if you can not keep the dog and a rescue space is available ....
Just pls make sure it is a no kill rescue.
Poor dog, and poor you...0 -
Thanks guys...I must have called about 30 different people and rescues over yesterday and today - no one has room for him. Two glimmers of hope...a woman who works for my mother knows someone who *might* be interested in him. She's an animal lover, so I trust anyone she recommends. Have sent over his info and pics. The other, randomly, is a lady from an agency I am signed up with...I happened to mention I was trying to rehome him and she's asked for pics and details as well...she already has two dogs, so I doubt she'll take him, but I am keeping my fingers crossed. I *really* don't want him to go to kennels as he's a very sensitive soul and I think it'd kill him being locked up like that.
If he does have to go to a rescue, my first choice would be somewhere that offers foster homes...kennels are a last resort and there is no way in hell I would send him to a kill shelter. Hell would freeze over, first. I am willing to transport him, but I can't afford to travel that far...would have to be under an hour.
As it is, he's currently curled up on a chair oblivious to it all and I am waiting for the rain to stop so I can take him for a short walk (vet has ordered him on rest because of his leg, but the lil' guy still needs to stretch his legs).0 -
Please try
http://www.lurcherlink.org/llink/forum/index.php
You will find a list of specific lurcher rescue centres on there.
And you can also post all of the details you have on here and see if any of the lovely people who frequent lurcherlink can help you. People on there often try to help out with transport for people in need.
Wish i could take him myself he looks beautiful, but one lurcher is enough for me.
Let us know how you get on0 -
Well, *possible* good news, which came from the most unlikely of sources...
The recruitment lady has spoken to her husband who has said a "well, we already have 2, what's 1 more?" lol. So, I am working on arranging to drive to hers so Red can meet her and her two dogs.
Fingers crossed!
In the meantime Red is passed out in the lounge fast asleep and oblivious to it all. I had a sad moment last night when I got him a toy and tried to play with him - took him time to work out what I was doing, which suggests no one has ever played with him. Once he got the hang of it, though, he loved it. Brought the toy to me to throw, chased after it - great fun
. Poor little mite. It's a miracle he's as friendly and lovely as he is considering what he's had to endure. 0 -

The family I took him to see yesterday loved him and he got on brilliantly well with their two rescue dogs, but sent me an email today saying they don't want him. So, pinning last hopes on this lurcher guy in Berkshire as I simply cannot keep Red past Friday, unless I want us both to be homeless. Last resort he goes back to my friend, but her dogs will just continue to bully him and possibly injure him (again). Plus having him was stressing her out, so it's a less than ideal situation all around. I've kept on trying more and more rescue places, but it's the same story - totally full. One place I tried already had a waiting list of 100 dogs
