Asda selling underweight

I bought some king prawns in Asda yesterday, the sticker on the freezer said that the bag was 240g but having got home, the packet is only 200g. What should I do? It must surely be worth writing to Asda? They must be breaking the law

Maybe the ice melted
Was the 240g frozen or unfrozen weight?0 -
200g inclusive of ice glaze0

In that case the 2 possibilities I can think of are 1) wrong ticket - ie ticket for another similar product thats perhaps sold out and asda forgot to remove the ticket or b) weight has been reduced instead of raising prices and asda havent gotten around to printing new tickets yet.
As for illegal....debatable. While the ticket may say 240g, presumably the packet itself says 200g? In my experience, people check the ticket for price, check its the ticket for the product they have/want and also check the price per 100g/kg/whatever. Probably against guidelines but not enough to even earn them a slap on the wrist.
Quite a good chance it wouldnt mislead the average consumer imo.
Certainly doesnt stop you complaining to asda and seeing whether they will give you a goodwill gesture. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

just for curiosity how many king prawns where in the pack :beer:0 -
More curiosity here but do you take everything home and weigh it?0

Personally, I suspect that the pack size was reduced and the SEL wasn't changed.
The relevant legislation is the Price Marking Order 2004.

I'd go back with the receipt. Find the same product. Check the Shelf Edge Label (SEL). If it still says 240g, weigh a pack on one of the scales in the fruit & veg' section. If it weighs 200g, take a photo of the SEL and have a word with customer services.
Then, the next time you visit, check the SEL. If it hasn't been corrected, take another photo and contact your local Trading Standards Dept.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

I assume you've eaten the evidence though?0
