ha ha Tara :) well that's the thing about eBay and Amazon, it is a bit of faffing around putting the stuff up for sale and then packaging it and sending it off ... I've done it before but I kind of ran out of mental energy really ... Got anything I could buy? :):p

Plenty lol! Mainly clothes and unused toiletries, I'm trying to reduce my toiletries stash so I'm keeping my 'holy grail' products and flogging the rest!

It is a huge faff, but worth doing, I've made over £4,500 on eBay so far.

It is, but you're right, and I have a load of unused stuff - clothes mainly. Some books too probably. No doubt other stuff. I'll have a think. :)

Went out last night and spent about £50. Note to self, must find a way to resist temptation to spend when out. I do like champagne cocktails, is the problem there.

Going to have a go at tracking down a couple of work shifts I did that I never got paid for a while ago ... well in fact I did get paid for them, but the payments went into a Barclays account that had been closed, and Barclays never returned the money to the payer, as they are in fact supposed to do apparently. So I am going to get onto it now.

I freelanced for quite a while and it was astounding the number of errors made regarding payment. You really have to keep close track of it. One of the many ways in which having a regular job is easier.

Eco Miser, good point. Are you a bit of a night owl? You post in the wee hours of the morning :)

A combination of self-reinforcing circumstances. I tend to fall asleep in the early evening, so I'm wide awake around midnight, so I read these boards. Since I'm doing that, I get to bed late, then get up tired, so I fall asleep in the early evening. :(

  • After a massive overspend (£4,000 which is double my already modest max £2,000 outgoings a month...!!!) I am not declaring a loss/gain this month, just going to move on and give myself a kick up the....and get back on budgeting!!! Looking to have £4,000+ by end of November and £6,000+ end of year which along with my £9k from this savings thread and the £20k debt i took on, i used for an investment which will start paying a return next financial year.

Anyone clued up on how much tax you should pay as an employee? Since April im at about £9,000ish which to me seems very high and online calculators suggest im £2k over already but hmrc say i wont get a refund unless i miss a pay (get paid £0 on a payday) or wait till April so they know iv paid enough at 40%(which is what im paying towards now even though not hit the threshold yet!!)

    What is your taxcode?
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

ha ha! :) ... But have you seen this? ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-16964783

Or indeed this, saying much the same thing: http://slumberwise.com/science/your-ancestors-didnt-sleep-like-you/

The reason I asked to start with is I'm a bit of a night owl - left to myself I potter to bed about 1.30am or thereabouts, assuming I don't have to get up in the morning (or even if I do). But it's not as frugal as being a lark because you pay more in electricity and heating - the house is colder in the wee hours.

No, is the short answer to your question, YoungBusinessman, but I would have thought HMRC could help you on that, though sometimes I wonder (how helpful they are, that is). ...
