  • JoJo, I too am hoping that Cathy is OK and has not lost her enthusiasm for saving money. Cathy we need an update!

PS. JoJo, Can I be cheeky and ask why you have over £1000 sitting in your piggy bank not earning some interest?

Hi OW! Good to hear from you! I too hope that Cathy is well and is so busy saving that she doesn't have time to come on here :)

Not cheeky at all! It's probably really silly of me to have that money in our gigantic piggy bank, but we had just kept that for when my husband did homers and got paid in cash. We'd just pop it in there with the intention to take it to the bank eventually. But we just haven't got round to it shamefully. Our interest rate isn't great anyway so I don't feel like we're missing out too much.

We're making an appointment with the bank for my son's bank account soon so I'll make a point of taking it in then.

    How is life treating you?

Is there a good reason you don't have a TSB Plus account or six earning you 5% AER, (That's £50 on £1000) or do you just think 5% isn't a great rate? :)

  • JoJo, I agree wholeheartedly with EM. You should max out the interest that you can get on your £3k savings. Get TSB down on your 'to do' list.

No, no, not at all EM. I know that I could get 5% and I'm silly not to take advantage of that. The savings account that my money is in at the moment was an add-on savings account that the bank set up when I opened my current account with them. I have no idea what the interest rate is but I know it will be pitiful.

I set up a santander 123 account a couple of weeks ago but they wouldn't automatically transfer my direct debits so I need to do it manually for all of my DDs and SOs. Havent yet got round to it but I'll do it while I'm off this week. Just writing a list of everyone I need to call.

So that's on my list, and now so it setting up a tsb savings account. Thanks for the kick up the bum!

Once you've got one open, open another, then 2 joint, and 2 for your OH.

  • JoJo, if you want to read about earning money from current accounts there is an article in today's Sunday Telegraph explaining how it is possible to earn up to £850 from banks due to lucrative cashback incentives and in-credit interest rates. Point 1 covers the TSB current account.

Of course if you are near a Waitrose you can get the Sunday Telegraph for free by spending £6. At the weekend you have to spend £10 to get a free paper, £5 on weekdays. However, the cost of the £2 paper and the cost of the £2 free coffee with your free Waitrose card counts towards the £10 spend.

hi all! Sorry to be away the past few days. A friend of mine who had been ill for a long time became seriously ill in the last couple of weeks or so and sadly on Friday she died. So that's been occupying my thoughts. I saw her on Thursday for a last visit to say farewell and am glad I did that.

I will get back into the swing of things shortly. Thanks JoJoC, organicwanabe and all who were wondering what was happening. x
