Bank won't cancel CPA / Mail Order Payment without me specifying an exact amount?

I called my bank to cancel a CPA to QUICK QUID . The bank have said that these are taken by a mail order request rather than a CPA and they can't cancel without an EXACT amount to cancel.
My bank want to know an amount to the exact penny!
The issue is , QQ have tried to debit my account of just under £50 every day this week . The payment of £270 isn't actually due til the end of the month - but I contacted them to tell them I can't afford to pay them.
My bank declined the payments due to insufficient funds. I'm due a refund on the account and I don't want this eaten up by QQ.
I challenged the bank but they said to comply with the new FSR regulations regarding CPA / future payments they need an exact amount.
If the lender changes the amount they request , then the bank may not refund me! Even though I have asked them to cancel the instruction all together.
Is this correct??

What fermi said! ^^^
I'd get back onto your bank and hopefully speak to someone else, or a supervisor. Sounds like they don't know what they're talking about!First DMP payment 10/06/13

I thought as much!
I kept saying he was wrong and he was having none of it. He read out this script which they now apparently have to read?0 -
If his script says that, then the script is wrong. There is nothing in the PSR that says you can only cancel by naming the amounts.
As said, you need to bypass the normal ignorant phone staff and talk to their supervisor/manager or equivalent.
Tell them that you are not prepared to be misled, and that by making your request you have made a valid request to cancel the CPA whether they like it or not.
Tell them that you will be reporting their attempt to mislead you regarding the PSR to the FSA etc, and that if they should allow payments to go through then you will be requiring them to be reversed in full and claiming compensation for any additional costs.
And that you will take the matter to the FOS if required.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Similar case where the bank were shown to be talking twaddle.

I would open an entirely separate bank account and have your money paid into that.0

Email Quick Quid and tell them you are cancelling the CPA with them too. And any Direct Debits they might have set up.
That way, they are not allowed to try and take any more money and if they do complain then refer to FOS.
And try and talk to someone at the bank that knows what they are on about...:beer:0 -
Report your debt card lost or stolen, then you will receive a new card, the constant payment authority does not transfer to your new card as QQ will not know the new card details etc, it will stop them debiting your account via that method, but they still might set up a direct debt, without your knowledge or say so, and take there money that way, you need to keep checking your account, constant payment authorities, CPA`s, do not transfer between cards as some people have suggested they do, this I can confirm from personal experience.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. That is wrong. The payment authorities can continue despite reporting cards as lost or stolen.
Independent research by Consumer Focus confirm's that as a common problem.

Cancelled CPA payments are being taken on a cancelled card and debited on a new card linked to the same bank account, without the customer’s permission.Still rolling rolling rolling......<

Hmm I take your point on this, however this did not happen to me, maybe I was lucky, it seems the banks are the problem in this situation, staff not trained correctly, which is a common problem in most walks of life these days.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
