doesn't make any sense
It's because you need the pulp and fibre as well (so I'm told). Otherwise I'd cover the whole 5 off with vodka & cranberry juice...Highest debt - £24500

I'm guessing wine doesn't count as fruit juice?
I'm doing badly at this today - a bunch of grapes and a handful of veg so far.0 -
so would 5 apples count?0

Nah, try five DIFFERENT portions. Fruit is the same as anything else, too much of anything isn't good.0

sadly not
but it does have antioxidants (don't quote me on that - I may have got that wrong!). Drunk in moderation, it is beneficial to the heart.
Unfortunately I always forget about the "moderation" part. Hmmm.Highest debt - £24500

I'm trying to get more fruit & veg into meals especially for my kids (3y11m & 2y4m) but we always seem to eat the same things.
How do you cope with this? ...and trying to vary it as much as possible too?You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs:rotfl:

For ages, I thought I was being a good girl eating my 5-a-day until I read that potatoes don't count. Well why didn't they say so in the first place?? i tend to take things literally most of the time ,so if I'm told that I should eat 5 portions of fruit and veg a day in various government, charity and supermarket publicity, it doesn't really occur to me to wonder whether there are any unmentioned exclusions.
My DS hardly eats any other vegetables, and will pcik out unwanted vegetables from things like pasta dishes, and leave the veg at the side of his plate. He's happy to eat 5 portions of fruit a day, but that gets quite expensive.0 -
Eat a banana and apple for snacks instead of chrisps.
Most of my meals contain tomato and onion.
I may drink a glass of orange juice.
Easily do-able.0 -
Have you tried smoothies (in a blender, per person, half a ripe banana, handfull of fruit, eg peach, pineapple, kiwi, berries, approx 4 tbsp yoghurt)? This is also a great way to get calcium into children, and using full fat yog, calories into poorly ones.
As for veg, I grate it into burgers, which keep them moist, and much tastier than 100% meat IMO. I chop veg into pasta sauce, but you can grate it in, too. That way, it cooks down and is impossible to spot (or remove!).
My children didn't eat much veg when they were small, but have always liked fruit, so I never woprried about that.

Give a handful of sultanas to eat.
sliced banana and custard = or summer ice cream
fruit salad
veggi burgers = am sure Gingham Ribbon has something in her list somewhere.
place the veg as a happy face on the kiddies plate, sausage as the mouth, carrots (chop) as the eyes, brochli as the hair etc.....0
