    Make and model of the boiler and why has it been 'condemned', and by whom?
    That doesn't mean that it's not repairable, just that it's unsafe in it's present condition.
    What, specifically, is wrong with it?
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    My mother-in-law has had her boiler condemned so has no heating or hot water (other than what she can boil in a kettle!! She is not on any benefits and has no savings so I am unsure as to where to look for help.Any ideas

    Any reason why your hubby cannot help sort this out for his Mum?

    I am getting leaflets for a Free Boiler quite often.

    Presumably there is a scheme where if you are on pension credit or other benefits and have little saving, then you can apply for a free boiler, and eventually get one.

    There's two issues - one, if she's happy for you to help, go through what income and savings she has and see if she's entitled to any benefits;
    two, get a second opinion on the boiler - sometimes boilers can get repaired quite cheaply. Some companies would rather get you to install a new boiler than do a minor repair.

    There was a big crack in the boiler, it had been leaking for a while. Gas man (who we also use and trust) was upset as well but there was nothing he could do. He even offered to call us to explain the problem.
    She does not claim for any benefits and my husband has tried talking to her about seeing if she is entitled to any benefits but she is quite stubborn.
    Perhaps now is a good time to relook at her finances.
    She does have an electric fire to use but that would only be ok for a short period.
    Thanks for all the advice.
  • If she doesn't claim benefits and doesn't have any savings what is she living on ?
  • Doe's she not even get a pension credit, she would qualify for a free boiler if she did, I have just got a free combi off eon, absolutely free worth £2.000, its brilliant. hope she gets something soon.
