You did whats right for your family. You'll be able to fill your time when they are at scholl quite easily as others have said before maybe with volunteering or further studying. Also if you need to watch the pennies you could use the time to batch cook, bake, learn a new craft like crochet. Declutter your house and life and sell stuff ti make a few pound.

    Good luck

  • Well I did the exactly the same. I was doing a very stressful job, working long hours and also caring for a son who has a chronic illness and emotional problems. I didnt realise just how exhausted I was until I left my job and you will probably feel the same.

My advice would be to not make any plans for the first six months. Get up to date with all those little jobs at home that need doing. Get into a routine, enjoy doing all the domestic stuff that you like whether thats baking, sewing or whatever. Devote some time to the kids and just try and enjoy a bit of breathing space.

After a while you will probably feel like you need to be doing something. I remember that after I had been off for about nine months I did start to get a bit bored so then I started an evening class and did some voluntary work which got me out of the house and I was amazed at how much I enjoyed this.

I went back to work properly after 3 years. I found a part time job which is much lower down the career ladder than my old job but its close to home and I can still manage my sons needs. I am happier now than I have been for years and having the time off made me realise that I dont need to prove myself to anyone.

I do remember feeling guilty at times when I was off about not working - even though I was always busy. You do lose your confidence a bit too and I used to miss getting up on a morning and getting smartened up to go out of the house. These are all little things though and overall I enjoyed the break from work.

I hope it all works out for you and you find some breathing space. Like me it sounds like your gut instinct is telling you that you need to give up the job so I am sure you are doing the right thing.
