How much to unlock a orange phone

My friend has been given a I phone from her granddaughter who's just got a new one on her contract.
It's locked to orange, as we tried to put her Tesco sim in it, she's on the 7.50 monthly sim, and is happy with that.
Problem (well sort of is) the granddaughter is only 17 so the phone is on contract in her dads name, who is currently touring Australia, and orange will only speak to him, to unlock it for £20 and a time scan of around 30 days.
Been to a few shops today that unlock all want over £100 to unlock the phone.
Is this the right price or can it be done anywhere else cheaper.
thank you

Does her father have an Orange SIM card of his own with him in Australia? If so, he can use it to phone Orange on 150. In my experience, calls to 150 while roaming are always free; Orange is one of very few networks with this benefit.Saint_Chris wrote: »Problem (well sort of is) the granddaughter is only 17 so the phone is on contract in her dads name, who is currently touring Australia, and orange will only speak to him, to unlock it for £20 and a time scan of around 30 days.0 -
£100 is about right, although it can be done a little cheaper:

I'm not sure what company her dad is with, i'll message her and tell her to contact him and ask.

Erm .... didn't you just say 'Orange' or am I misunderstanding???0 -
You are misunderstanding. Dad has a contract with Orange that the daughter is using, however it is not known who Dad has a contract with for the phone that he is using. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi, I'm afraid this is the case. The last registered owner will need to call Orange and get then to unlock the phone. It does cost £20 and they say 30 days Max but its usually nearer 10-14 days.0

I think you'll find it's usually more than the advertised 30 days. There are quite a few posts in this forum about this. If they do take more than 30 days, you will be entitled to a refund under Regulation 19 of the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 but first wait for them to unlock it before asking for a refund.19lottie82 wrote: »It does cost £20 and they say 30 days Max but its usually nearer 10-14 days.0 -
You could just fill in the online form here; https://explore.ee.co.uk/unlock
It doesn't ask for any info that you don't have... Mind, going by the posts on here, Orange are likely to take months to get the unlock done!0 -
Mine took 40days and cost £20. Do not unlock elsewhere, as this is fundamentally jailbreaking and will probably relock at the next firmware update.
Only the supplying network has the ability/authority to ensure the unlocking is undertaken officially and via iTunes.0 -
This is very accurate advice. However, there is also a theory that eBay sellers have access to send unlocking requests to Apple, either via the originating network's insiders or by another means.Mine took 40days and cost £20.
