Another vote for the YMCA. Get a suite if your wallet will stand it: sheer luxury!

Alternatively, there are cheap places to stay on the islands. You could easily rent a flat on Cheung Chau: there are always landlords waiting to meet the boats that arrive. Be aware that this is where the youth go to party, so it gets wild and noisy at the weekend.

I also had a good experience landing on Lamma and asking for a place to stay (high quality and low price), but that was a very long time ago.

There was once a valued member on these forums that offered loads of advice, help and a bit of humor every now and again.

Yet one day he was banned (indefinitely) because he made a joke someone didn't find funny.

But the point is, had he been here he would have ended this thread by the second post. He gave me some advice re Hong Kong of where to stay and the cheapest place and we paid maybe £20 per night which I challenge you to beat.

If only Bob was still here ;)

The place Coraline is talking about (but has neglected to name) is either Chunking mansons, or Mirdor mansions. Both pretty much next door to each other, opposite a mall, in fact the whole of Kowloon South is malls. But the point is, there are no cheaper places to stay.

Bob would have got the credit for this, Coraline hinted but for whatever reason decided against actually helping the OP by naming the place.

    Nothing wrong with Chunking.

Well, except for the elevator situation.

    Cheap, cheerful and cheesy :D
  • Thanks for all the advice everyone....

Voyager I will look into the suites, I'm beginning to think HK may be our splurge of the holiday...

I actually really wanted to stay in Chun King having read about it in a book once....but hubby feels we need some luxury.

Mr Wang - Bob was super helpful when I planned my Thailand trip over a year ago didn't realise he'd gone :(
Bylromarha - thanks for the pic - now I really can't wait!
